Disney D23 recently posted an advisory regarding the Ultimate Disney Trivia Tournament, which is awarding a preview cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy to the winner. While Disney D23 wants to emphasize that those wishing to participate must audition on THURSDAY, August 18, one day prior to the Expo’s start, the newly released gotcha is that the line will be cut off at 9:45 am (the selection process begins at 7:30 am, but hopefuls are invited to line up as early as 6 am at the Anaheim Convention Center).
Disney fans attending the first day of Disney’s D23 Expo, presented by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, August 19-21 at the Anaheim Convention Center, will be able to end their day with an unforgettable evening of harmony provided by Dick Van Dyke & The Vantastix. The popular vocal quartet is comprised of legendary television, Broadway, and film star Dick Van Dyke and three renowned west coast musicians—Mike Mendyke, Bryan Chadima and Eric Bradley. The group will appear in concert on Stage 23 at the D23 Expo on Friday, August 19, 2011, at 8:15 p.m.
Earlier this month, we shared the plans Disney Parks and Resorts has for its presentations at the 2011 D23 Expo taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 19 – 21. D23 has now released the full schedule for the Disney Parks panels, which are in addition to the keynote arena presentation by Parks Chair Tom Staggs on Friday, August 19 at 3:30 pm. The individual panels and schedule are as follows:
FRIDAY, AUGUST 19
- The Making of The Little Mermaid — Ariel’s Undersea Adventure (1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, Stage 23) – Imagineers Lisa Girolami, Larry Nikolai, and Chris Crump take you behind the scenes.
Kids, tweens and families can meet their favorite stars of Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior, over three fun-filled days, FRIDAY, AUGUST 19–SUNDAY, AUGUST 21, at the ultimate event for Disney fans, Disney’s D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The schedule includes a musical performance by actress and Hollywood Records recording artist China Anne McClain (Disney Channel’s “A.N.T. Farm”), a martial arts performance by actor Leo Howard (Disney XD’s “Kickin’ It”), musical performances from Radio Disney’s newest N.B.T. Artists, Hollywood Records recording artist Coco Jones and a boisterous performance by Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band (from Disney Junior’s “Jake and the Never Land Pirates”).
Readers are offered a look at how the resort was created, including revealing details behind the mysterious operation to acquire the vast expanse of Florida land needed to build Walt’s “vacation kingdom of the world.” With its nostalgic look back at attractions that have vanished but remain in the hearts of multiple generations, this commemorative issue also takes readers on an exclusive visit to the Magic Kingdom’s underground “city.” Readers are privy to a host of little-known facts that contribute to Walt Disney World’s remarkable history and give the Florida theme park its unique identity. An illuminating all-encompassing interview with Imagineering dynamo Eric Jacobson rounds out the issue, as he tours the Magic Kingdom with Disney twenty-three, pointing out some of his park favorites and giving readers a preview of the new, expanded Fantasyland.
Most of the lots for the Disney D23 Expo auction have been published and there are definitely some goodies to be had for the right price.
Props include items that once found a home around the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort such as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum sculptures from the World of Disney, a giant snow globe featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle, a cannon from Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean, a zebra destined for Jungle Cruise (but never quite found his way), a replica of the Pirates of the Caribbean barker pirate by Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily and the actual Hitchhiking Ghost figures from Walt Disney World’s Haunted Mansion, that would materialize inside guests’ doom buggies. Also up for auction, like at D23 Expo 2009, is a Peter Pan’s Flight vehicle, which (if memory serves) sold for $20,000 in 2009.
Fans attending Disney’s D23 Expo August 19-21 at the Anaheim Convention Center will have the chance to experience “a great big beautiful tomorrow” as they immerse themselves in the future of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, which is currently in the biggest period of global expansion in its history.
Drawing inspiration from a classic attraction that debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair and has made stops at Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts invites attendees to hop aboard the “Carousel of Projects” for a sneak peek at concepts, designs, models, storytelling tools, and technologies currently being developed at Walt Disney Imagineering for Disney parks around the world.
A strong commitment to corporate citizenship is as much a part of The Walt Disney Company’s heritage as the family entertainment that has delighted and captivated audiences for decades. Disney opens a new chapter in that level of commitment at the D23 Expo on Friday, August 19, 2011 in the Anaheim Convention Center Main Hall. A special announcement will be part of a storytelling event featuring two of America’s best-known and most popular writers, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and David Arquette, star of Disney Junior’s #1 series, “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”
Coolwaters Productions, who have partnered with Disney D23 in bringing their celebrity clientele to the 2011 D23 Expo for autograph sessions, have announced further specifics in terms of pricing and available items to be signed, including special limited edition items and prints created just for Disney D23 (Disney D23 membership will be required to purchase these select items).
The schedule and available details are as follows:
