Disney Consumer Products (DCP) will give Disney’s most loyal fans an up close look at an extensive collection of interactive experiences and merchandise that celebrate Disney, Marvel and Star Wars timeless characters during the bi-annual D23 Expo, the ultimate Disney fan event. Held at the Anaheim Convention Center from Aug. 9-11, 2013, Disney fans will have the chance to follow their favorite products from “sketch to shelf” and learn how Disney Consumer Products extends storytelling from character and content extension to product development through featured discussions, art and sculptures and final product displays.
Disney D23 today announced a new alternate reality game (ARG) dubbed ‘The Optimist,’ as a joint venture between Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development and the Walt Disney Studios. The game focuses on a young undergrad named Amelia (on Twitter as @storyorbit) who is working on a documentary about her grandfather, Carlos. Recently deceased, Carlos was a writer who would inspire a young Amelia with his stories. After his passing, Amelia stumbled upon many of his old documents and began compiling everything she could find for her documentary as a tribute to him.
Making the rounds on the interwebs this weekend, and even hinted at by Disney Store designer Steve Thompson, is our first look at the fabled upcoming Disney Fairytale Designer Collection featuring several Disney Princesses alongside their romantic counterparts.
Expected to be an actual doll collection in the vein as the Disney Princess Designer collection as well as the Disney Villains designer collection, the Disney Fairytale Designer Collection is expected to be formally announced later this month and is expected to feature the couples boxed together at a retail cost of around $130 US per set.

Disney D23, the official fan club of fans of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that in honor of the 60th anniversary of Walt Disney Imagineering and the origins of Disney Parks and Resorts, Walt Disney Imagineering will be hosting an ‘open house’ at its pavilion at the D23 Expo, taking place August 9 – 11. The pavilion will be opening the doors of WDI’s unique facilities and offering an unprecedented look at its creative processes — all on the floor of the Anaheim Convention Center. In addition, Imagineers past and present will host an entire day of panel discussions on Sunday, August 11, celebrating their 60 magical years of ‘dreaming and doing.’

Attendees of the D23 Expo 2013 can catch an exclusive advance screening of this film featuring a Q&A with director Erin Leyden and producer (and ’99er) Julie Foudy. The screening and panel will take place in Stage 28 on Sunday, August 11 at 2:30 pm PT.
Disney D23, the official club for fans of The Walt Disney Company, today announced that it will debut a new experience at its upcoming 2013 D23 Expo: the À La Mode Costume Contest. The contest is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm in the Stage 23 venue.
À La Mode, named after The Incredibles’ couture genius Edna Mode, is the first competition of its kind to showcase fans’ creativity through costumes inspired by all things Disney, including Motion Pictures (Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm); Parks & Resorts; Consumer Products; Media Networks (including Disney Channel, ABC, and ESPN); and Interactive.
