BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Aug. 3 — Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) , the world’s largest online movie rental service, today announced an agreement with Disney-ABC Television Group that will make several of ABC’s most popular TV series available to be streamed instantly from Netflix.
In its entirety, the deal will allow Netflix members to instantly watch the first five seasons of the hit ABC franchise “Lost,” seasons four and five of the pop culture phenomenon “Desperate Housewives,” season five of the critically acclaimed “Grey’s Anatomy,” and seasons one and two of the syndicated epic action-adventure fantasy series “Legend of the Seeker” from ABC Studios. Many of the episodes, including the first four seasons of “Lost,” will be available from Netflix beginning August 1. The remainder will be available in subsequent months, beginning in September.
ABC.com and Kia Motors America (KMA) unveil the first webisode in a five-part short-form series titled “Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative.” Exclusively sponsored by Kia Motors, “Mysteries of the Universe” is a fictional “documentary” series set in the early 1980s which takes an in-depth look into a variety of unsolved mysteries.
Once thought to be Lost, this all-new explosive documentary project provides a full-scale investigation into the so-called “Dharma Initiative.” Through interviews, research, eyewitness accounts and more, the short-form series attempts to uncover the truth behind this shadowy organization, including the possible existence of a secret society with links to covert locations around the globe, including a South Pacific island, which is the subject of intense speculation, but whose whereabouts have never been confirmed.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Thousands of future rock stars uploaded videos to Disney.com for the chance to win the ultimate rocker experience but only one rocker in each category will win. Finalists for U Rock 2 have been selected and are currently up for voting on Disney.com (www.Disney.com/URock) allowing fans to decide the winning rock stars. Launched in June, U Rock 2 gave music lovers the opportunity to create their own videos set to songs from popular Disney artists and post their original videos on the U Rock site.
Variety is reporting that ESPN.com’s test of offering Chicago its own localized version of information from the sports news giant has been so successful, that it’s moving on to other markets. Dallas is expected to launch in October while New York City and Los Angeles will follow in 1Q ’10. In addition to extended coverage of local sports including at the high school level, each site will have its own short form of SportsCenter.

(NYSE: HUM), a leading health-benefits company, today announced the winners of its “Operation Planet Savers” game, the latest in a series of games developed by Humana’s Games for Health team.
Winners of the “Operation Planet Savers” game will attend the red carpet premiere of Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “G-FORCE” movie on July 19 in Hollywood. Winners were chosen through a random drawing of those who played the game since it started on June 1. ”Operation Planet Savers” is part of a unique collaboration with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is designed to impact children’s health in a fun and innovative way.
ABC will exclusively debut international superstar Shakira’s first single, “She-Wolf,” from her upcoming album on Epic Records, in the ABC Music Lounge. The song will be available to download for free at www.abcmusiclounge.com starting Sunday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m., ET/4:00 p.m., PT, until Monday, July 13, at midnight, ET/9:00 p.m., PT.
Shakira wrote and produced “She-Wolf” with John Hill (Santogold). The full album (title to be announced) is due out in October 2009.
Shakira boasts a string of chart-topping hits in both English and Spanish and sales of over 50 million records.
