This month, DisneyChannel.com lets users celebrate Halloween early with its “October Takeover” initiative, an augmented reality experience that gives kids the chance to be a virtual character from eight popular Disney Channel series.
A multiplatform digital and programming event, Disney Channel’s October Takeover starts online at www.DisneyChannel.com/Halloween where kids, with their parents’ permission, can digitally recreate themselves in virtual Halloween costumes representing some of their favorite Disney Channel characters such as “Hannah Montana,” Agent P from “Phineas and Ferb” and Sicky Vicky from “Sonny With A Chance,” among others. Trying on a costume is as easy as sitting in front of a webcam or uploading a photo. The Halloween-themed site instantly adds a costume over the image and allows webcam users to create a 15-second video. Participants have the opportunity to have their videos and photos featured on Disney Channel’s site or on-air throughout the month of October.
Disney Online, part of the Disney Interactive Media Group, today debuts a second season of “The Possibility Shop“, an original web series produced by The Jim Henson Company. The site, which can be accessed through DisneyFamily.com, will be updated every two to three weeks with content designed to inspire the imagination of the entire family through creative projects, activities and games. The Clorox Company returns as the exclusive sponsor for all 20 webisodes in season two of “The Possibility Shop.”
Playdom, in collaboration with ESPN Games, today launched a sports-themed social game on Facebook titled ESPNU College Town. Fun, engaging and easy to play,ESPNU College Town gives sports fans a chance to create and run their own virtual college campus, build an elite athletic program, and compete against their friends for bragging rights.
Sports fans in the game are given all the tools to create their own university, complete with academic buildings, major athletic venues – including football stadiums and basketball arenas – and ESPN-branded assets such as an ESPN College GameDay set and production truck. Other buildings and campus must-haves include dorms, a fraternity/sorority row, student unions, restaurants, libraries, walkways, streets, parking lots and more.
Social gaming developer Playdom, which was recently purchased by The Walt Disney Company, has integrated the Disney theme parks into its ‘Social City’ Facebook app. Game players can participate in an in-game raffle in which the prize is one of the iconic attractions at the Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Parks: Matterhorn Bobsleds, ‘it’s a small world,’ Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, Mad Tea Party, Haunted Mansion and the Partners statue.
Players who manage to collect all seven items will unlock Cinderella Castle which comes complete with its own fireworks.
