Disney D23 Announces Slate of Member Exclusive Events in 2011; Disney Legends Ceremony Returns

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is pleased to announce the coming year’s slate of special events, designed especially for its diverse and growing membership base.

Among the exciting offerings for 2011 are exclusive D23 Studio Tours throughout the year, four free 50 and Fabulous film screenings on the Walt Disney Studio Lot in Burbank, D23’s Great Disney Scavenger Hunt: Walt Disney World, the highly anticipated Destination D: Walt Disney World 40th, the perennial favorite Sip & Stroll event during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, a D23/Disney Junior ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’ event on the Burbank Studio Lot for the budding Disney fan, the festive Magic and Merriment event at the Walt Disney World Resort to kick off the holiday season and, of course, D23 Expo 2011.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Trilogy to be Re-Released on Blu-Ray with All New Material?

Disney's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Trilogy on Blu-rayAmazon.com has begun accepting pre-orders for what it’s referring to as a seven-disc re-release set of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy on Disney Blu-ray. Although the trilogy had been released on Blu-ray in the past, it was just six discs and featured no added material over the individual releases. Perhaps most telling of all, however, is the price. Currently selling at $50, the existing trilogy collection’s price will be trumped by the newly announced edition which is listed at $65.49. There is no information listed at this time, however, advertising what one might find on the seventh disc.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Trailer to Debut at Exclusive Disneyland Resort Event

Fans will be the first to get an exclusive look at the brand-new trailer for Walt Disney Pictures’ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D on December 13, 2010, at AMC Downtown Disney Theatre 12 in Anaheim, California, as part of an exclusive “Pirates Fans First!” event. “Fans First!” winners will also have the chance on that day to be the first to experience the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction that started it all. Fans can enter to win a vacation for four to the event by “Liking” Yahoo! Movies on Facebook or entering the sweepstakes via Disney Movie Rewards. Fans can also gain access to this exclusive event by listening to 102.7 KIIS-FM starting December 6th.

Disney/Pixar’s ‘Day & Night’ on Shortlist to be Considered for Academy Award Nomination

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 83rd Academy Awards®. Thirty-three pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production company:

  • “The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger,” Bill Plympton, director (Bill Plympton Studio)
  • “Coyote Falls,” Matthew O’Callaghan, director and Sam Register, executive producer (Warner Bros. Animation Inc.)
  • “Day & Night,” Teddy Newton, director (Pixar Animation Studios)
  • “The Gruffalo,” Jakob Schuh and Max Lang, directors (Magic Light Pictures)

Disney’s ‘Tangled’ Clip: ‘PAN-dering’ (Plus a Couple More)

I feel like I’ve been sharing a new clip from Disney’s Tangled practically every day. Oh wait, I have. This clip, titled ‘Pan-dering’ for reasons I suspect I shall never learn, actually is the lead-in to the clip posted yesterday, ‘Person In My Closet’ so I’ve re-posted it below the new one so you can re-watch it in sequence.

In short, Rapunzel has a frying pan.

On that happy note, ‘The Smolder’ was also released yesterday but I think I forgot to share it. So I’m left with no choice, here comes ‘The Smolder.’

‘Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun!’ to be New Parade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

According to cast member Paul Chadkin, the new parade debuting on January 16, 2011 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World will be titled ‘Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun!’ The parade will consist of characters from several Disney/Pixar films including Toy Story, The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Ratatouille, Monsters, Inc., and Up.

‘Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun!’ will replace the existing afternoon parade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, ‘Block Party Bash’ which will see its final performance on January 1, 2011.
