Video: ‘Creating Wonderland’ – A Behind the Scenes Look at ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Progressions

Earlier this week, Walt Disney Studios released this amazing video that shows a behind the scenes peek at the progressions used to mix live action with computer generated imagery to form some of the incredible sights found in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Much of the live-action is filmed against a greenscreen using a technology called chroma key (most often used in television weather reports) in which everything that is green (such as the background, the frog standees and even some of the people) is removed automatically from the final product, allowing them to mix the images together seamlessly.

Miramax to Release ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ but What Will They Call It?

Despite being on the auction block, plans to release upcoming films from Miramax still appears to be on the plate. And despite being a remake of a 1973 tv movie, Disney is hinting that it may rename the Guillermo del Toro produced film.

So if it won’t be called Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, what might we see the film billed as in theaters? To their credit, Disney did register DBAOTD.COM (although that in itself would be a marketing nightmare) and DONTBEAFRAID-THEMOVIE.COM but they also recently registered domain names for They Are Waiting (THEYAREWAITING.COM), They Wait in the Dark (THEYWAITINTHEDARK.COM) and What Lurks in the Dark (WHATLURKSINTHEDARK.COM).

CONFIRMED: Disney/Pixar to Re-title ‘The Bear and the Bow’ as ‘Brave’

UPDATE: Following our initial report on the domain name and trademark registrations, Disney has also gone ahead and registered a few trademark applications specifically for DISNEY PIXAR BRAVE. Here’s an example. Note although the application was filed on March 12, it takes a few days for it to become accessible to us.

They did it to Rapunzel. Big signs are pointing to them doing it to Secretariat. And now it appears the next victim may be the Disney/Pixar original fairy tale The Bear and the Bow.

Disney/Pixar Introduces Sparks from Toy Story 3, Debuts International Poster

[SinglePic not found]Admittedly we’ve fallen slightly behind when it comes to keeping up with the Pixars, so we’ll attempt to cram in as much news about Toy Story 3 a we can into this one little article.

First up is the introduction of new Toy Story 3 pal Sparks. Sparks’ manufacturer’s description is as follows: Sparks will fly – literally – during electrifying playtimes with your new robot friend Sparks! This retro-inspired toy has flashing red LED eyes and a blaster cavity that actually spits out real sparks when he’s rolled along on his sturdy rubber wheels. Sparks also sports telescoping arms with working pincers, and an elevator action that raises his entire body to new heights. Sparking action completely child-safe. Requires two AA batteries (not included).

Photo Gallery: Pixar Screens Toy Story 3, Receives ShoWest Big Ten Award

Jordin Sparks, Schwartz Family at Disney Store Times Square Grand Opening Party (Photo by Stuart Ramson) Earlier today, after a presentation of Toy Story 3 to attendees at the ShoWest convention at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas, Disney/Pixar’s John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich and Darla Anderson accepted the Big Ten award on behalf of Pixar Animation Studios in honor of its ten-in-a-row box office smashes.

The award may be a bit premature, however, if even a single percent of what we have heard from early reviews of Toy Story 3 is true. If so, the crew at Pixar are best advised to start working on their Big Eleven award acceptance speech.
