Continuing our unparalleled coverage of the special Disney/Pixar Weekend taking place at Walt Disney World, May 13-15, we have learned that reserved seating at the special ‘Presenting Pixar’ talks featuring Cars property guardian Jay Ward, Pixar producer Jonas Rivera and composer Michael Giacchino, will be made available as seating is extremely limited at these events (approximately 800 guests per show according to our sources).
Queen, McQueen… McQueen, Queen. In what has to be the luckiest stroke of unplanned and most inconspicuous timing with the royal wedding of Prince William and future Princess Kate, Disney/Pixar has released this international royal invitation to the summer premiere of Cars 2, which features Vanessa Redgrave as the Queen. We also catch glimpses of Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) in flying mode, Mater in various disguises and what looks to be like a knighting ceremony… could it be Sir Mater?
We also have this turntable for the Queen:
Blue-collar comedian and the voice of Mater in the upcoming Disney-Pixar summer comedy “CARS 2,” Larry the Cable Guy will “git-r-done” as the honorary pace-car driver for the 52nd running of the Coca-Cola 600 on May 29 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In addition to leading the field of 43 NASCAR stars in the Coca-Cola 600, Larry the Cable Guy will also take part in various activities around the speedway, including attending the drivers meeting, prior to the main event.
It seems like forever ago that we first met Finn McMissile and were the first to announce the national State Farm-sponsored ‘Agents on a Mission‘ tour of life-size remote controlled versions of Finn, Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater in honor of the June 24th release of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2. Fortunately for us, the waiting and heavy anticipation paid off in spades as the trio made their way to New York City just in time for the 2011 New York International Auto Show and were none worse for the wear.
Via the official Disney Parks blog, Walt Disney World has confirmed Stitch Kingdom’s original report on the gala celebration in honor of Pixar’s 25th Anniversary and the release of Cars 2 during the final weekend of Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival.
The official announcement does make note of a few differences, however, namely that many character greetings will take place inside the World Showplace and around the World Showcase, but not in the Future World area.
Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios have provided us with these exciting fun facts about the upcoming summer blockbuster, Cars 2 which features old friends and — as you will soon find out — just a few new ones.
LOTS OF CAR-ACTER
‘STICKERS’ NO MORE – Lighting McQueen is voiced by Owen Wilson.
- He is a Pixar design with a V-8 engine, 750 horsepower and rear-wheel drive.
- He has coil-over shocks with tubular A arm front suspension, a solid axle rear end and vented disc brakes at all four wheels. He also has air flaps on his roof to prevent flipping.
Disney/Pixar has provided us with a slew of gorgeous new concept art and character design images for Cars 2.
It’s absolutely riveting (bad pun not intended) to see first-hand how a Lodge spark plug from around 1937 and a Bugatti grill influenced the design of the Eiffel Tower and how Ratatouille helped with Notre Dame as well as the other influences on landmarks in the film such as the Tokyo Imperial Palace, Big Bentley, New House of Parliament and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Disney/Pixar has released a new set of hi-res character stills and profiles of new friends from its upcoming summer blockbuster sequel, Cars 2.
But first, here are two new retro posters for London, England, added to the beginning of the gallery below.

Cars 2 races into theaters on June 24, 2011
Amazon.com has begun taking pre-orders for the original motion picture soundtrack to Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 with an anticipated release date of June 14, 2011. No additional information is available at this time other than it is scored by Michael Giacchino.
Amazon.com also now lists Rev/Racers Lightning Mcqueen and Siddeley Spy Jet from Mattel as being available starting May 16. Previously we were aware the Cars 2 toys would begin rolling out in May in anticipation for the June 24 film, with about 25% of the more than 300 items being held off until fall 2011.
From Tokyo to London to Paris to Porto Corsa, this new triptych from Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 is a literal feast to the eyes. While Lightning McQueen leads the pack in Tokyo, Finn McMissile is taking his fight to the streets of London much to the dismay of Miles Axlerod (and Professor Z, needless to say). Meanwhile, both Mater (who was recently revealed to acquire machine guns in the sequel) and Holley Shiftwell take to the air, although it appears that Holley’s flight is self-propelled.
