Disney/Pixar’s fast-action summer hit “Cars 2” comes home on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D, Movie Download and DVD — November 1, 2011 (now available for pre-order). Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios, the high octane in-home release invites families and fans of all ages to come along on a journey around the world with the #1 animated film of the year and introduces an exclusive all-new animated short “Air Mater,” featuring the fan favorite characters pinning his tales in an exciting adventure high above Radiator Springs. The must-own animated release also includes fascinating commentary from award-winning director John Lasseter and “Hawaiian Vacation,” the delightful animated short that accompanied the film in theatres.
While in London to promote Cars 2, director John Lasseter visited the BBC for a brief interview. After answering a question about what it really means to direct an animated film, Lasseter appears to have been blindsided by a question on the state of Toy Story 4 following a few speculative statements made by star Tom Hanks on BBC Breakfast a few weeks ago (Hanks later on to repeat his statements elsewhere).
Roughly transcribed, the interview went something like this:
BBC: Quick question. Tom Hanks was on the ‘Breakfast’ sofa, or was interviewed on ‘Breakfast’ recently, talking about Toy Story 4.
Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios have provided us with yet another still from their upcoming summer 2012 original fairytale, Brave. The new still, like the one before it, features Merida, this time coming up against what appears to be the once-title character of the Bear.
The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the land’s ancient lore — stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage. The film also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Brave, full of heart, memorable characters and Pixar’s signature humor, takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
Is Pixar Animation Studios’ mystery film of 2013 yet another in a growing line of sequels for Disney/Pixar? While in the UK to promote Larry Crowne, actor Tom Hanks was asked during an interview for ‘BBC Breakfast’ whether there will be a Toy Story 4, to which the star first appeared to be speculating, stating ‘I think there will be, yeah,’ quickly adding ‘I think they’re working on it now.’
Unfortunately this is going against the conventional wisdom of most of the media reporting on the matter, somehow substituting the phrase ‘I think’ with ‘I am absolutely, positively certain.’
Obviously this will only be a partial list by nature because Pixar Animation Studios is the absolute champ when it comes to building in hidden messages and images and it can often take until well after the blu-ray is released before many of them are found, but here’s our feeble attempt at finding just some of the easter eggs in Cars 2, hopefully in a spoiler free way. We’ll provide mentions and hints about what we’ve found and heard about and will put more details inside a hidden paragraph that can be found by clicking on the text displayed beneath it.
If you can’t make it to a digital projection showing of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 anytime soon and if you happen to read this before someone from Disney’s legal department does, a moviegoer has opted to make a video recording of the Brave teaser trailer.
Despite the fact that the teaser trailer is in 3D and the camera is not and it appears that the bootlegger is about the size of a smurf, it’s not unwatchable from a quality perspective, but be forewarned that he’s no Jerry Seinfeld.
It’s also worth noting that one Pixar animator has noted on Twitter that it will not be available online officially, so this may be your only opportunity for those that don’t wish to see Cars 2.
You know him better than you know your own brother, even if you don’t have a brother. He’s the Caddy with the golden touch, Mel ‘Are you there, Caller?’ Dorado — host of the 14 Gold Fender-winning syndicated talk show, the ‘Mel Dorado Show.’ With a career spanning more than three decades, when he started as an assistant at WCNC (World Car News Chicago), nobody steers an interview quite like Mel.
In honor of the Brave teaser attached to digital projection versions of Cars 2 now in theaters, Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios are presenting an official good first look at Merida, the heroine in their next film, Brave (formerly The Bear and the Bow). Although Entertainment Weekly is debuting the image in their latest issue, we have been very fortunate to acquire an online version of the image in glorious high resolution. We’re so happy to be able to share this image with you, in fact, that we are presenting it in the same resolution we received it, which is larger than what we typically share.
