Historic El Capitan Theatre Receives RealD 3D XL Cinema System in Time for Toy Story 3D Double Feature

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1  — The famed Hollywood El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood has been upgraded to 3D cinema leader RealD’s XL Cinema System in time for the highly-anticipated debut of Disney PIXAR’s Toy Story and Toy Story 2 Disney Digital 3D(TM) double feature beginning October 2nd. Powered by RealD for 3D presentations since the release of Disney’s Chicken Little in 2005, the landmark El Capitan Theatre is the highest attended RealD 3D theatre in the world.

“The El Capitan is a state of the art movie palace which has been equipped with RealD 3D technology for many years,” said Michael V. Lewis, chairman and CEO of RealD. “Upgrading to the industry’s brightest 3D delivered by the XL Cinema System in time for ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Toy Story 2′ will help a new generation of fans discover and fall in love with this classic franchise and beloved characters in spectacular RealD 3D.”

“This fantastic double feature will let moviegoers see two of their all-time favorite films from Pixar Animation Studios in a way they have never seen them before,” said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group. “Countless hours are dedicated to creating Disney Digital 3D films and we’re excited audiences at the El Capitan Theatre will experience every eye popping 3D effect and feel like they’ve stepped inside the movie through RealD 3D.”

Disney Legend Tim Allen Among First to Welcome Buzz Lightyear Back to Earth

Comedy superstar Tim Allen, who provides the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story,” “Toy Story 2” and the upcoming “Toy Story 3,” offered an official thumbs up to the space ranger this week for spending more than 15 months in space onboard the International Space Station as part of a NASA-Disney educational outreach collaboration. Buzz returned home aboard Space Shuttle Discovery STS-128 on September 11. He’ll be treated to a ticker-tape parade down Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on Oct. 2, which coincides with the big-screen return of “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2”—this time in a Disney Digital 3D double-feature. ‘WALL-E’ Screenwriters Receive Humanitas Honor

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Andrew Stanton, Jim Reardon and Pete Docter walked away with the feature film award for their “WALL-E” screenplay Thursday at the annual Humanitas Awards, which honor TV and film writers whose work enriches human understanding.

In his acceptance speech at the Beverly Hills Hotel luncheon, Reardon noted that to keep themselves thematically on-point while writing their script, the “WALL-E” scribes referred to their animated protagonist as Johnny Humanity-Seed.

D23 Expo: Lasseter Reveals Details on Cars 2

Cars 2, due out in summer of 2011, finds its foundation when Lightning McQueen is invited to participate in the International Race of Champions, a world-wide race in which McQueen competes against all genres of racing cars.

Inspired by the press junkets Lasseter used to make around the world while promoting Cars, Lasseter said he often found himself wondering ‘What would Mater do?’ when encountering all of the different types of unique driving experiences around the world, such as driving on the other side of the road in London, the roundabout in Paris, viewing scooters in Italy as gnats, etc.

All New Disney/Pixar ‘Cars Toons’ Rev Up on Disney Channel, Disney XD and ABC Family

All-new episodes of Disney•Pixar’s “Cars Toons,” an animated short series directed by Academy Award©-winner John Lasseter with Rob Gibbs co-directing and starring Lightning McQueen’s rusty friend Mater, will debut beginning FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20 on Disney Channel, Disney XD and ABC Family. They are titled “Unidentified Flying Mater,” “Monster Truck Mater,” “Heavy Metal Mater” and “Tokyo Mater.”

Mark Mothersbaugh (“Devo”) composed the music for three episodes and BT (“The Fast and the Furious”), a prominent composer of dance and electronic music, scored “Tokyo Mater.”

The four new stories follow the popular shorts that began debuting in October 2008 and which have reached 22.9 million Kids 2-11, or 56% of all kids in that age group in the U.S., and 67.5 million total unique viewers.

“Cars Toons” are directed by John Lasseter, (“Cars,” “Toy Story 2,” “A Bug’s Life” and “Toy Story”) and co-directed by Rob Gibbs (“Cars,” “Finding Nemo,” “Monsters, Inc” and “Toy Story 2″). Kori Rae (“The Incredibles” and “Monsters Inc.”) is the producer. Victor Navone (“Cars,” “The Incredibles,” “Finding Nemo” and “Monsters, Inc.”) co-directed the episode “Tokyo Mater.”

In “Unidentified Flying Mater,” premiering Friday, November 20 on Disney Channel, Mater meets a cute little bucktoothed UFO named Mator, takes him out for a night of fun and they quickly become best friends. But when Mator is captured by the military, Mater and Lightning McQueen come to the rescue.

Disney Consumer Products and LEGO Group Unveil New Six Foot Woody Statue at Venice Film Festival

LEGO Sculpture of WoodyVENICE, Italy — LEGO models of Woody and Buzz Lightyear were unveiled by Disney Consumer Products as part of a dedicated Toy Story-themed family area at the 66th Venice Film Festival. Constructed from 13,600 LEGO bricks in 150 hours, this was the global unveiling of the Woody model which stands at over 6 1/2 feet tall. The Buzz Lightyear model, seen for the first time in Europe, was constructed from 40,000 LEGO bricks in 250 hours by 3 Master Builders and stands just over five feet tall.

Disney-Pixar Jolted by Shocking Lawsuit Over Lamp

The squisher of the I in Pixar before every film, he and the ‘Luxo Jr. Ball’ are the stars of Pixar’s first animated short over 20 years ago. He has become such an icon, that he is quite literally an icon, looming over Pixar Studios in Emeryville. He has also now become the latest entity on the line of Disney’s Living Character Initiative (LCI), appearing in full animatronic form at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. He’s also the prized collectible in a Pixar boxed Blu-ray set to be released just in time for the holiday season.
