It’s disguised as a report on how many billions Disney Consumer Products is hoping to rake in with products inspired by Toy Story 3, but this report from Reuters has another item on its agenda: Toy Story shorts.
Today we are blessed with first looks of several figures from the Alien Invasion project by MINDstyle. Featuring contributions from 30 Disney and Pixar artists, each have put their own individual spin on a blank figure in the shape of the LGM from the Toy Story films.
The exhibition tour kicks off June 15 at Hong Kong’s Times Square. For a preview of other figures from the exhibit, check out MINDstyle’s official blog.
We also get our first look at MINDstyle’s limited edition art toy collectible (ATC) of the main character from John Lasseter’s original short, Tin Toy. The figure will first be released at San Diego Comic Con. No word on edition size or whether it will be an exclusive to the SDCC.
I am so excited that Disney/Pixar has finally released this video clip which features Michael Keaton as Ken from Toy Story 3. First shown to D23 Expo attendees, Groovin’ with Ken is a mockumentary from the 1970s which introduces us to the character new to the Toy Story family and the hardships and prejudices he faces, looking fashionable the whole time.
Disney/Pixar Animation Studios recently opened a production studio in Vancouver, Canada to handle animated shorts, which will initially appear to be mostly the next generation of Cars Toons as well as the Toy Story Toons we speculated about back in March.
In the video, John Lasseter and Pixar Prez Ed Catmull are joined by Pixar Canada’s Creative Director Dylan Brown, CTO Darwyn Peachey and General Manager Amir Nasrabadi as they introduce the new complex and its expectations. In one of the more interesting joint promotions for the new Disney/Pixar film, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has enlisted Sheriff Woody and the gang to help promote its priority mail service. The Priority Mail website was the first element in the campaign, receiving a visit from the popular toons.
Kicking off last week, Post Office retail locations across the country have begun displaying posters as well as other Toy Story-themed promotional materials. The Post Offices are also selling several birthday cards from Sunrise Greetings featuring many of the characters from the trilogy as well as padded envelopes in multiple sizes.
Including just a tad bit of new footage, Disney/Pixar has just posted the first television ad for Toy Story 3 online.
Below is the tv advertisement that began running today featuring the Aflac duck in his 50th commercial. The joint venture between Aflac and Disney/Pixar helps to promote Toy Story 3 by placing the beloved duck smack dab in the middle of Sunnyside Daycare.
This is the second advertisement in which the Aflac duck meets the stars of a Disney/Pixar film, the first being a commercial that co-promoted UP.

Aflac is collaborating with Disney*Pixar to create the Aflac Duck’s 50th television ad and to celebrate the Duck’s 10th birthday by reminding people that Aflac is there to help out when you need it most. The commercial is part of Aflac’s integrated marketing campaign with Disney*Pixar to promote Aflac together with the highly-anticipated release of Toy Story 3, a 3D comical adventure opening June 18, 2010.
