It’s been more than a year since we first learned about ‘Miles from Tomorrowland,’ an upcoming animated series from Disney Junior, which is slated for a 2015 debut. Since that time, not much else has been revealed about the program beyond the synopsis, but today we have acquired a few additional details thanks to a couple of upcoming books announced by Disney Publishing Worldwide.
Last month, we broke news that the creative time behind the upcoming film, Tomorrowland (May 22, 2015)– Brad Bird, Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen, along with illustrator Jonathan Case — had written a 288 page novel prequel to the film, appropriately dubbed Before Tomorrowland. While all the details we knew about the book were on the technical side (e.g. it will also include a 20-page full color comic insert), thanks to a recent update to Disney Publishing Worldwide’s upcoming catalog, we now have a hint at the plot of the prequel.
A lot has been made recently of a new series of chapter books ‘continuing’ the adventures of Princess Anna and Queen Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, available from Random House in 2015. While news of the books isn’t exactly news — the only thing to really come of it was the cover for the first title, we also now have a synopsis for the third title in the series and between books 2 and 3, Frozen fans have some interesting adventures to look forward to.
Amazon is listing Before Tomorrowland, a ‘deluxe novel’ which ‘dives into the history and ancient conspiracy behind the world of Tomorrowland with an action-packed original story.’ The publisher’s description also notes that the title is ‘perfect for fans of Tomorrowland and fans of science fiction and alternative history.’ The 288 page novel — which also includes a 20 page full-color comic insert — is currently slated to be released on April 7, 2015, just shy of two months before the film’s May 22, 2015 release date. The book is a combined effort of Brad Bird (director/co-writer/story), Damon Lindelof (co-writer/story) and Jeff Jensen (story) along with noted comics writer and illustrator, Jonathan Case.
Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm today announced that three new titles will mark the return of the Star Wars franchise to Marvel comics beginning in January 2015. The new series will be considered canon and take place immediately after the events of Episode IV: A New Home.
The new titles begin in January with Star Wars by writer Jason Aaron, artist John Cassaday and colorist Laura Martin. Star Wars chronicles the days following the destruction of the first Death Star. Discussing the flagship series, writer Jason Aaron tells Marvel.com, ‘Every story is about the characters, and we’ll focus on all the old favorites. There will be big moments for everyone, from Han to R2-D2. But a major part of the narrative will be driven by Luke Skywalker and his journey of discovery, a journey that will decide the fate of the entire galaxy.’
One of the titles I was looking forward to the most this summer was The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty’s Prince by Serena Valentino (July 22, 2014). A follow-up to her acclaimed Fairest of All which chronicled the Evil Queen’s (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) descent into madness, Beast tackles what I have long considered my favorite Disney animated film of all time, Beauty and the Beast.
Although no official announcement has yet to be made by Disney Publishing Worldwide, if previous plans are in tact, Stan Lee’s graphic novel, The Zodiac Chronicles (January 27, 2015, available for pre-order) should have a presence at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. In addition to the availability of advanced reader copies (ARCs) of the title at Disney Publishing’s booth #929, a free eBook prequel is also expected to launch just in time for the convention. The title may also be teased during Disney Publishing Worldwide’s panel on Sunday at 12:30 pm in room 8.
Admittedly as much as we try, it’s darn next to impossible — actually probably right on top of impossible — to keep up with every single detail of every single project under the Disney umbrella — though we try! That’s why it came as a bit of a shock to us when we saw this cover for an upcoming 176-page original novel titled ”Star Wars Rebels Servants of the Empire: Edge of the Galaxy’ based on the upcoming Disney XD series.
Disney Publishing Worldwide today announced it will be publishing a prequel to the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants, titled Isle of the Lost. It will be written by bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz, whose previous titles include The Witches of East End and Blue Bloods. It will be available in hardcover on May 5, 2015.
Legend has it that long ago, the most infamous villains were imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost, cut off from the rest of the world as a punishment for their misdeeds. In this dark and dreary place, the likes of Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella de Vil and the Evil Queen reside and evil reigns supreme. Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos are their descendants, the teenaged sons and daughters of the Isle’s most villainous characters, and they are coming of age on the Isle of the Lost.
The insanely popular Kingdom Keepers series may have ended with volume VII, but it is far from over. Disney Publishing Worldwide has announced a new trilogy by Ridley Pearson to debut in March 2015 featuring the Kingdom Keepers characters as well as new characters. According to Disney, the beloved Kingdom Keepers head to an exclusive Imagineering school where they begin to discover that everything they’ve been through may have been all in preparation for a mission they could never have imagined.
The first of the trilogy is currently titled Disney Lands and is slated for a release on March 31, 2015. The publisher’s description is as follows:
