Tickets for The View from Walt Disney Studios for the week of March 9 are no longer available, but Big Lots! and ABC have announced a contest in which the grand prize winner will receive a trip for two that includes airfare, ground transportation, a 3 day/2 night hotel stay and VIP tickets to a show taping to take place between March 9-11. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2009) – With the largest-ever gathering of “American Idol” winners joining in the celebration, Walt Disney World Resort Thursday night raised the curtain on “The American Idol Experience,” a new attraction capturing the energy and excitement of the hit TV show.
Thursday’s grand premiere, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, was attended by all seven winners of the series, from season-one winner Kelly Clarkson to season-seven champion David Cook. Joining Cook and Clarkson were Jordin Sparks (season six), Taylor Hicks (five), Carrie Underwood (four), Fantasia Barrino (three) and Ruben Studdard (two). (more…)

One of the final panels at the 2009 New York Comic Con was this panel featuring cast & crew of the upcoming Disney XD keystone show. Moderated by Jermaine Turner, head of development for Disney XD, the panel began first with a clip promoting the new channel which debuts next Friday. According to the promo, Aaron Stone will be joined by other programs such as: new series like Kid vs Kat and Jimmy Two Shoes; classic Disney Channel shows such as Even Stevens, Phil of the Future, the Suite Life of Zack and Cody; and new episodes of Phineas and Ferb. It’s being reported that Disney will invest $233 million into new projects for the free Disney Channel in Russia currently in development in partnership with Media One TV (Disney will have a 49% stake in the channel). The channel is already expected to air dubbed versions of Hannah Montana and other Disney Channel staples, but will also feature exclusive content developed directly for the market.
O the humanity! Spring Walt Disney World guests are still reeling over the cancellation over the never-quite-official Mickey’s Pirate & Princess Parties for 2009 and now this. According to the Orlando Sentinel’s Hal Boedeker, the planets and stars (Disney stars that is) have completely misaligned for this tradition. The games are reportedly taking a backseat to the stars’ careers and with the introduction of Disney XD, other promotional plans are in the works. See the rest of the report here.

The LA Times is reporting that The View will be broadcasting from the Disney Studios in Burbank, CA the week of March 9.
The inspiration for the location came from executive producer Bill Geddie who accompanied Barbara Walters when she was honored with a Disney Legends Award. The article cites Geddie as being enamored by the Disney Studio’s Legends Plaza (see image on left) which faces the seven dwarfs adorning the Michael D. Eisner building and holds replicas of the famous Disney statues Partners and Sharing the Magic in addition to a giant sculpture of the Disney Legends award itself. Plaques containing the names of Disney Legends cover the plaza’s columns.
