Following the announcement made today by Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company of a $2 Million donation for Hurricane Sandy relief and rebuilding efforts, the Disney/ABC Television Group today announced that it will designate Monday, November 5, 2012 as a “Day of Giving” across network and syndicated programming spanning News, Daytime, Primetime and Late Night, encouraging the tens of millions of viewers engaged throughout the day to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Disney Junior’s ‘Sofia the First,’ a fairytale about a little girl who becomes a princess, debuts in an illustrated storybook from Disney Publishing Tuesday, October 30, in a DisneyJunior.com/Sofia online experience Friday, November 2, in a digital EP album from Walt Disney Records Tuesday, November 13 on iTunes and other digital retailers, and in an animated television movie event, Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess, premiering Sunday, November 18 at 7:00 pm ET/PT on Disney Channel and Thursday, November 22 at 9:00 am ET/PT on the 24-hour channel Disney Junior. A ‘Sofia the First’ series premieres in early 2013.
WWE Studios and ABC Family today announced that WWE Studios and ABC Family are developing an upcoming television movie, Christmas Bounty, for a 2013 world premiere during ABC Family’s popular ’25 Days of Christmas’ programming event. WWE Superstar The Miz is attached to star in a lead role.
Christmas Bounty is an action-filled comedy about a former bounty hunter turned elementary schoolteacher. Determined to have a normal life, and keep her bounty hunter past a secret, she reluctantly returns home for Christmas to help save the family business by catching the one bounty that got away. But when her fiancé follows her home for the holiday, she struggles to hide her wild family business and a bounty hunter ex-boyfriend she thought she’d left behind. Written by Andrew Black & Vivian Lee, and James Berg & Stan Zimmerman, the movie is scheduled to go into production in early 2013.
Put on your cowboy wear… It’s Country night, on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars,” MONDAY, OCTOBER 29 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Each couple will be performing to a Country hit song where the celebrity will be required to perform a solo during his or her routine. Three-time CMA Award-nominated group Little Big Town will rock the stage, performing their smash hit, “Pontoon,” accompanied by The Troupe. The remaining eight couples will perform together in a Freestyle Group Dance. Accompanying the Group Dance, Country legends Big & Rich, along with Cowboy Troy, will perform a medley of “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)” and “I Play Chicken with the Train,” two of the show’s most exciting freestyle songs from previous seasons. This is the first time the show’s Group Dance will be accompanied by musical guests.
The heart-tugging, original feel-good series, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” returns to ABC with four special holiday-themed episodes. The first episode will premiere Monday, November 26 at 9:01 pm ET, immediately following the ‘Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars’ Performance Finale on the ABC Television Network. The remaining three episodes will air on the following three Mondays, December 3, December 10 and December 17.
Guest host Jenny McCarthy visits the Watson Family of Knoxville, TN in a special Thanksgiving-themed show. The Watson family has adopted children and runs a home for single mothers in need called Restoration House. The episode features a visit to the ‘Wipeout’ set and an appearance by UFC Champion fighter Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
ABC Family will premiere The Mistle-Tones, an all new original musical starring Tori Spelling (‘Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood’) and Tia Mowry (‘The Game’) on Sunday, December 9 at 8:00 pm ET/PT. The movie will air as part of the network’s annual ’25 Days of Christmas’ programming event.
ABC Family began production today on the drama series pilot “Socio,” starring Avan Jogia (“Victorious), Maddie Hasson (“The Finder”), Kylie Bunbury (“Prom”), Kimberly Quinn (“Terriers”) and Denise Richards (“Two and a Half Men”). Also recently cast in the project is Sam Robards (“Treme,” “Gossip Girl”). Kathy Najimy (“Make it or Break It”) and Grey Damon (“The Nine Lives of Chloe King”) have also been cast as guest stars.
ABC Family will kick off the New Year with all new episodes of returning original hit series and fan favorites “Switched at Birth,” “Bunheads,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “The Lying Game,” all set to premiere the second week of January 2013, with two nights of original programming. Famed culinary experts Ludo Lefebvre and Brian Malarkey are confirmed to join no-holds-barred chef Anthony Bourdain and British food star Nigella Lawson as Mentors on eight episodes of ABC’s innovative new cooking competition show, “The Taste.” Bourdain and Lawson are also executive producers. The new one-hour alternative series from Kinetic Content will premiere in 2013 on the ABC Television Network.
