The Disney Parks blog today confirmed that the ‘Mad T Party,’ a street entertainment venue based on Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland will be replacing ElecTRONica this summer. Although we were not the first to discuss the entertainment offering, we did correctly identify its title to a t back in September of last year.
One of the largest and most expensive theme park attractions ever built, Radiator Springs Racers will be the anchor in the Cars Land expansion at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, set to open summer of 2012. Based on the technology of Epcot’s Test Track technology, the attraction will place guests in the role of a Cars citizen as they take a leisurely stroll through the area, encountering many of the characters from the Disney/Pixar film, before getting involved in a virtual high-speed race against another vehicle filled with guests.

Yesterday, Oscar Martinez celebrated 55 years as a cast member at the Disneyland Resort. Martinez started his career at the park in 1956 as a bus boy and today serves as a cook at the Carnation Cafe on Main Street, USA. Throughout his service at the resort, Martinez has trained thousands of cast members and has become a favorite of many guests who visit him year after year.
Martinez is the first Walt Disney Parks & Resorts cast member to achieve this 55-year milestone and, as such, he became the first to receive the newly created 55-year Snow White-themed service award which was bestowed upon him in a ceremony held earlier at the resort.
One never knows what one may see or encounter on the World Famous Jungle Cruise, such are the risks and rewards of working with live animals. Thus it is crucial one relies on a trusted skipper employed by the Jungle Navigation Company. Whether it’s the giant butterflies that can grow anywhere from 12 inches to a whopping 1 foot, crocodiles looking for a hand-out or (in some cases) piranhas, there are few things that will surprise a Jungle Cruise skipper.
Take for example this particular trip down the Amazon, in which Skipper Stephanie recalls an evening at Trader Sam’s pad:
Disney Parks and Resorts almost had us. Back in August, we revealed that we had learned Disney Parks and Resorts was working on something dubbed ‘One More Disney Day.’ Due to the timing (close to when new campaigns were usually announced) and the Disney D23 Expo looming ahead, we naturally made the assumption that it must be the campaign for the 2012 year.
Well months came and went and we ended up sporting egg on our face as we found out Disney Parks went ahead and created a page dedicated to ‘One More Disney Day.’ The problem? It ended up seeming more like a blase sales pitch then anything else. Hey, stay another day. Why not? Why not indeed.
The Disneyland Resort today announced that for the first time, it will observe Three Kings Day as part of its holiday celebration festivities in addition to its traditional offerings including nightly snowfall on Main Street USA and holiday overlays for ‘it’s a small world’ and Haunted Mansion.
Also known as Día de los Reyes Magos, Three Kings Day is celebrated in many Latin American countries as part of the Christmas story. It commemorates the day the three kings (the magi or ‘wise men’) followed the star to Bethlehem and presented their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
How many months have 29 days? All of them if it happens to be a leap year and that aspect of 2012 seems to be the cornerstone of what Disney Parks and Resorts is billing as a big New Year’s Eve ‘surprise announcement.’ Leave it to Disney Parks to schedule and pre-premote their spontaneous surprises.
Disneyland Resort today announced that Ghirardelli will open a new location inside Disney California Adventure park in late spring 2012. The soda fountain and chocolate shop will add yet another layer of traditional San Francisco flair to the Pacific Wharf area of the park.
“The addition of a world-renowned brand like Ghirardelli highlights our focus on providing quality, immersive experiences that transport our guests to a different place – in this case to San Francisco,” said Mary Niven, vice president of Disney California Adventure park. “With the culmination of our expansion only a few months away, it is an exciting time at Disney California Adventure and we look forward to partnering with Ghirardelli in bringing this delicious chocolate experience to our guests.”
On Monday, the Disneyland Resort invited Gunnery Sgt. Derrick Poteat, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s S-6 communication platoon, and his family to “flip the switch” on more than 300,000 holiday lights blanketing “it’s a small world” Holiday, transforming the popular attraction into a visual wonderland and officially launching the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort. The ceremony, presented by the attraction’s sponsor, Sylvania, honored Poteat and his family for the contributions they have made to our country. Poteat, who enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1996, has completed three tours and recently returned from the latest, a seven-month deployment in the Middle East. He was joined by his three children, nephew, niece and wife, Clarice, an advisor to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s family readiness team, for a day of play at the Disneyland Resort followed by this special honor.
