Walt Disney World has announced some changes to its lineup of narrators for its annual holiday event, the Candlelight Processional, held at the America Gardens Theatre, beginng November 23 of this year.
Starting this fall, Walt Disney World Resort guests will become the stars of ‘Phineas and Ferb & YOU: A Brand New Reality.’ The virtual experience will allow guests to play with animated characters from Disney’s Emmy Award-winning animated series ‘Phineas and Ferb.’ The fun happens at Downtown Disney West Side, next to Bongos Cuban Café from September 1 through December 1, 2012 from 2 pm – 9:30 pm daily.
After starting the roll out of FASTPASS+ technology at the Magic Kingdom, which not only included the installation of temporary (and subsequent permanent) RFID readers at return lines at select attractions, along with limited tests, as well as pilot programs to enter the theme parks via RFID and — most recently — pay for purchases and unlock hotel rooms using embedded RFID chips in the Key to the World (KTTW) cards at the Contemporary Resort, it appears Walt Disney World (NYSE:DIS) is steadily pushing on to establish its NextGen technology at the Resort, this time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
It appears that after decades of providing spa services to guests of the Walt Disney World Resort, the ‘Vacation Kingdom’ may be preparing to part ways with Niki Bryan Spas and go with a partner it may find more agreeable — itself. Thanks to a tipster, we’ve learned that Walt Disney World has begun listing senior-level positions on its job site for titles such as ‘Spa Director,’ ‘Senior Spa Manager,’ and ‘Spa Guest Service Manager,’ suggesting the company is looking to manage the resort spas from the inside, as they are currently doing with Laniwai at Disney’s Aulani in Hawaii.
After topping the iTunes app charts for months, what is Swampy the Gator from the Disney Mobile franchise, ‘Where’s My Water?’ going to do next? He’s going to Walt Disney World, of course! Maybe sneaking in a bath or two first though.
Disney Parks has quietly launched SWAMPYATDISNEY.COM, a mobile mini-site that shares the above image along with the following teaser:
The official StarWarsCelebration.com website for Celebration VI, being held August 23 – 26, 2012 at the Orange County convention center in Orlando, FL has been updated with participation information from Disney Parks and Resorts.
In addition to anticipated items such as new Droid Factory pieces and the second series of Star Wars Vinylmation, Disney Theme Park merchandise (booth 331) has announced at least two show exclusives (pictured above). The Princess Leia Hologram Vinylmation figure is a show-exclusive variant, limited to an edition size of 2,500 pieces and retails for $18.95. Also available will be a limited edition die-cast set celebrating the 25th anniversary of Star Tours. The set features both the Starspeeder 3000 and the Starspeeder 1000 and will be priced at 19.95.
Magic Kingdom guests blink back in amazement at the scene: not one, but two colorful Dumbos spinning through the sky above Storybook Circus.
To the delight of fans of the beloved Dumbo, the Flying Elephant attraction, a second Dumbo flies alongside. The playful pachyderm is joined in Storybook Circus by the Barnstormer Coaster re-themed to the Great Goofini, the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station water play area and the Fantasyland Train Station — all part of the multiyear, largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history.
We last mentioned the program (which we believe to be called ‘I Am A Princess’) which allows a child’s face to be digitally transferred to the form of a Disney Princess a couple of weeks ago when we discussed a patent Disney is seeking to ‘clone’ the human face. Today, this program was confirmed by the official Disney Parks blog which offers up new details, though falls short of naming it.
While the blog erroneously identifies the ‘Carbon Freeze Me’ experience as being the introduction of the D-Tech.Me program during the most recent Star Wars Weekends event, the truth is the Disney Princess program has been piloted before. However, this is the first time it was officially announced and will accept reservations.
Apparently the long term effects of One More Disney Day have caught up to the Magic Kingdom classic attraction as the official Walt Disney World Resort website has begun listing Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland as experiencing a one day closure on October 9, 2012.
With the timing of the closure, it’s possible that it may be related to the park’s NextGen technology. Not necessarily directly in terms of installing FASTPASS+ or other interactive capabilities, but more in lines with demonstrating and training.
If we learn of an extension of dates, we will update as necessary.
Just how well does the moat that surrounds Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom protect the castle and (New) Fantasyland from ne’er do wells? Just how to defeat the most magical place on Earth’s defenses and make scores of Disney cast members and characters alike succumb to your almighty being is at the heart of this question recently proposed on Quora.com in the Military Strategy category.
