Taking to the stage for charitable good, the Encore! Cast Choir and Orchestra hit an all-time high recently by raising $36,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida. The volunteer ensemble of nearly 500 Disney Cast Members put in more than 47,000 hours to produce Dream Our Dreams, A Musical Tribute to the Legacy of Disney. Proceeds from the August 6-8 shows hosted at Epcot World ShowPlace were given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida this week.
The pool and kid slide at Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club will be closed for refurbishment from January 3, 2011 through February 2, 2011 while the pool side at the Boardwalk Inn and Villas will be closed for refurbishment from February 7, 2011 through March 16, 2011.
During this time, guests may continue to make full use of the remainder of the pool and quiet pools and may opt to use the pool at the alternating resort if the use of a slide is desired. Traditionally speaking, a shuttle is offered between the resorts when the pools undergo refurbishments.

Recognizing Disney’s leadership within the travel and tourism industry, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke appointed Al Weiss, president of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, to serve on the Corporation for Travel Promotion (CTP) Board of Directors. Weiss, based in Orlando, Fla., joins 10 other travel and tourism industry leaders on the board of the CTP, a new non-profit corporation that will promote travel to the United States abroad and improve the entry process for international visitors to the U.S.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Euro Disney SCA has secured permission from the French government to expand its operations. The plans for an expansion of approximately 13% in area to 5,508 acres and are expected to include a third theme park (in addition to Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios) as well as a housing complex and a ‘vacation village’ currently referred to as Les Villages Nature de Val d’Europe.
The Walt Disney Company has an approximately 40% stake in Euro Disney SCA, the parent company of the Disneyland Paris Resort.
A rhythmic and artful Skipping Ropes act joins the cast of La Nouba, an original Cirque du Soleil production performed at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The pair of Japanese rope skippers balance speed, grace and agility in a series of solo, duo and group rope formations.

From Magic Journeys to Captain EO to MuppetVision 3D to Honey, I Shrunk the Audience to Captain EO, one film camera provided all the magic and it was Hines’ 3-D Camera Rig that made the magic happen. Now, according to Variety, Disney and Steve Hines will be recognized for their efforts by the International 3D Society on October 19 at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Earlier this year, both Disney/Pixar’s UP and its accompanying short Partly Cloudy were recognized when the award was given out for the first time.
Walt Disney World has re-released this time-lapse photography video of the Halloween/fall decor being installed along Main Street USA and Mickey’s Toontown Fair at Magic Kingdom. According to the video description, more than 40 cast members are involved in the process which takes places over a period of five nights to install all of the holiday decorations.
The Disneyland Resort also released this video today highlighting some of its Halloween festivities including the Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion overlay, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, World of Color, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and character meet & greets.
