As if the reasons for visiting Rafiki’s Planet Watch weren’t numerous enough, Out of the Wild, the area’s gift shop is now offering Adopt-A-Nest packages from Disney’s Vero Beach resort.
Up until now, the offer has been available exclusively at the Vero Beach Resort, but now guests at Walt Disney World have the opportunity to adopt their own sea turtle nest while benefitting sea turtle conservation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF).
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., July 31, 2009 – For most guests, a trip to Walt Disney World Resort is synonymous with a vacation. But for two talented teens from Boston, their visit seemed more like biology lab than summer break.
Shreya, 12, and Marco, 14, traveled to Walt Disney World with their parents and a video crew to tape two segments for the hit PBS television series FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman. The program features an animated dog called Ruff who helps teach real world science by challenging his fellow cast members and viewers to ask questions, conduct experiments and investigate the world around them.
Disney Sports is creating a one-of-a-kind bonus medal for runners who complete the Fall Race Challenge, competing in two of Disney’s three fall endurance events at Walt Disney World Resort. Runners that record an official time for Disney’s Race for the Taste 10K and either the Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion or The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K will receive the bonus medal in addition to individual race medals – a total of three race medals for running two races. Registration for all three fall events is now open.
“Disney is dedicated to providing guests with new, interactive features to make their race experience more fun, more exciting and more memorable,” says Disney Endurance Series Director Kathleen Duran. “We are always looking for new ways to differentiate our Disney events by creating unique, immersive experiences.”
Disney’s fall lineup includes expanded race options. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13k event will feature a 5k and an exclusive post-race party. Disney’s Race for the Taste 10k event will include a new 3k race designed for casual runners and those looking to compete in their first endurance event.
It’s being reported that from opening until 3 pm for the rest of the week, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is attempting a new FASTPASS distribution system where guests can obtain a FASTPASS for any attraction from one location in particular, the machines at It’s Tough to Be A Bug.
Guests who are unaware of the testing will not be affected as other FASTPASS machines will be operating at this time as normal.

First-time mother Nande, a 10-year-old female white rhino born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, gave birth June 24 to a healthy male calf at the Ziwa Sanctuary in Uganda after a 16-month gestation period.
No, sadly the Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends show hasn’t returned, but the theatre in which it took place at Animal Kingdom’s Camp Minnie-Mickey isn’t going to waste either. Offered daily through August 8, Disney has brought back the Good Times Gathering Spot which had previously only been offered during Christmas and Easter weeks.
Topeka’s KTKA is reporting that the Topeka Zoo’s lonely hippo-turned-cougar, Mara, will soon have a potential suitor in Tucker, a younger hippo gentleman from Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
In the name of ‘research,’ I mistakingly googled on the mating habits of the hippopotamus. I didn’t go past that, but evidently it’s made the list of several top 10 ‘bizarre’ mating rituals.
Several new mothers are celebrating Mother’s Day at Walt Disney World a bit differently than the typical vacationing guest. For starters, they aren’t on vacation. They live at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. And they won’t be having Sunday dinner in any of the popular Disney restaurants. But despite the things these mothers do differently, because they are an elephant, a monkey, and a vulture, one thing is the same: the strong mother/baby bond as the new babies learn about their environment. Animal Operations Director, Matt Hohne, introduces the babies including Tsavo the African elephant, Zahra the Colobus monkey, and two Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture chicks.
