It’s just not a good week for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that UK residents Leanne Deacon and her mother have filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney World following a 2005 incident in which Deacon suffered from eventual cardiac arrest and a brain hemorrhage which required emergency surgery. The suit, which is claiming unspecified damages exceeding $15,000, claims that Walt Disney World was behaving as a ‘common carrier’ and thus was subjected to specific regulations guaranteeing guests’ safety. The suit also cites that Disney failed to present ample warnings and safety restraints. For it’s part, Walt Disney World conducted a full inspection of the attraction that same evening, even inviting oversight from the Florida Department of Agriculture Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection and found the attraction to be operating successfully. In Florida, amusement parks of a certain size (which includes Walt Disney World) are not regulated by the state. (more…)
A scheduled live performance by David Cook to air on Good Morning America this morning didn’t go quite as planned when problems causing the audio to intermittently cut out forced the aired performance to end prematurely.
With any luck, I will soon have video from GMA available featuring what little of the performance there was as well as an additional tour of the new American Idol Experience through the eyes of ABC weatherman Sam Champion and Cook’s colleague, David Archuletta.
As an update to a widely reported incident several months ago, Denise Mooty of Florida has gone ahead and petitioned the circuit court of Osceola County to bring forth a trial against Walt Disney World and several of its cast members for breach of contract, false arrest and emotional distress. According to the complaint, she is seeking undefined damages in excess of $15,000.
In the complaint, which you can read (more…)

The international calendar has finally posted the hours for Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. At this time, entertainment schedules for specific days have not yet been added for these parks.
Preliminary park hours are now being posted on the international versions of the Walt Disney World calendar. Unfortunately issues with the international calendar are preventing TimeKeeper from updating itself, although I hope to rectify this soon. Until then, enjoy these direct links to the calendar (no entertainment information has been posted as of yet):
The other parks have not yet been posted.
As I announced a week ago in this post, David Cook is set to perform at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on February 12 in honor of the American Idol Experience which marks its official opening on February 14. Cook is expected to perform twice throughout the day: the first performance as part of an appearance on Good Morning America and the second as part of a Media Event which begins at 4:30 PM. The Media Event is a private event and will not be open to guests in the park unfortunately. There is still some speculation as to whether guests will be invited to the GMA performance, so all hope is not yet lost.
And speaking of the American Idol Experience, AI David Cook himself is set to perform in honor of the new attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on February 12.
Unfortunately I don’t have any more details beyond that but if you know of more or will be able to attend and take photos or even just want to check back in and let me know how it goes, please email me at [email protected]
Check out this report on the new American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Theme Park Rangers got a full tour and cover all the details of the experience with plenty of trivia to boot. The American Idol Experience is set to officially open on February 14 with Annual Passholder previews before.
