Disney D23 Scares Up ‘Sip’n'Scream’ Event at Walt Disney World
Disney D23 has announced that it will be adding a brand new twist to its annual ‘Sip’n'Stroll’ event normally held during the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Two levels are being offered for the event, ‘Super Scream’ (which is a two-day event, October 2 and October 3) for $320 and a single-day event on October 3, for $125 (note that admission is required for either package on October 3 as it takes place during regular park hours).
The ‘Super Scream’ package kicks off on October 2, at an after-hours costume party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The event includes a tour of the Creative Costuming building, where guests will have a chance to see where some of Disney’s most detailed outfits are designed and constructed and a private dinner inside ‘The Great Movie Ride.’ This progressive dinner makes you the star of the show, as we wine and dine our way through the elaborate sets of this signature park attraction, stopping for drinks in the gangster’s den, dinner in the old west, and for dessert guests will head ‘over the rainbow.’
Wednesday’s event begins at 10 am with coffee and tea provided inside World ShowPlace, where guests will be treated to presentations highlighting this year’s Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and how Disney celebrates the ghoul-iest time of the year.
Following the panels, it’s time to party! A pairing party that is, as guests will be able to sample some of the succulent new dishes being served during the festival, paired with exquisite wines to accent the flavor. Additional details on panelists and food will be provided to guests as the event date draws nearer.
At 1 pm, it’s time to take the show on the road as guests will have the opportunity to stroll World Showcase and Future World at their leisure. The hospitality suite inside The American Adventure pavilion will be open during this time, exclusively for Sip & Scream guests to relax and cool down.
At 7 p.m. it’s time to Eat to the Beat, as attendees head to the America Gardens Theater for reserved seating to see Sugar Ray (‘Fly,’ ‘Someday’) perform in concert. Following the concert, guests will enjoy a delectable dessert party and private viewing of the nighttime spectacular IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth in France with special ‘Mickey Vision’ glasses. No D23 event would be complete without a few surprises and commemorative gifts as well.
Tickets will be available for purchase on June 27 at 1 pm ET. For more information and to purchase tickets when available, see the event page.

Carbonite Experience to be Offered at Star Wars Weekends 2012
What do you get the Star Wars fan that has everything? Studios Central is reporting that Star Wars Weekends (weekends May 18 through June 10, 2012 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will be offering a ‘Carbon Freeze Me’ opportunity in which guests can be digitally scanned to produce a likeness of themselves frozen in carbonite.
The site reports the experience will be offered inside ‘Sounds Dangerous’ and will cost $99.95. The final product will be delivered via mail within 3 – 4 weeks.
No further details have been offered at present, but it’s quite likely the product will resemble the ‘Custom Carbonites‘ by Paul Pape Designs which replicate the personalized iconic image in plastic and Super Sculpey, as pictured here. Paul Pape Designs is not affiliated with the Star Wars Weekends experience at Walt Disney World, but is able to provide custom carbonite sculpts based on photos and is arguably cheaper, offering a 4 1/4″ long sculpt for $50′along with a 12″ long sculpt for $300 (at this time, the dimensions and materials for the Star Wars Weekend version is unknown). Pape also offers a couples version.

‘The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow’ Experience to Open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall
The summer 2012 edition of the Mickey Monitor, Walt Disney World’s newsletter for Annual Passholders has announced that ‘The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow’ will be opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in summer of this year. It will be placed in Sound Stage 4 which has historically been known for sharing behind-the-scenes props and footage from films such as Haunted Mansion and films from The Chronicles of Narnia series, but ‘The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow,’ while based on The Pirates of the Caribbean films, is not reported to continue that genre.
In fact, the newsletter describes the attraction as ‘a first-of-its kind sensory experience’ and quotes Walt Disney Imagineering Project Manager and Show Designer Jason Roberts as saying, ‘this is going to be an immersive experience. We’ll really delve into the story of Captain Jack Sparrow and put our Guests in the middle of it all in new and exciting ways.’
UPDATE #1: 5/2/12 – The Disney Parks official blog has confirmed the new attraction but has stated it will open in fall, not summer as previously reported.

Walt Disney World has issued casting calls for Princess Merida, the heroine that will be featured in Disney/Pixar’s Brave which opens in theaters nationwide on June 22, 2012. Expected to begin appearing at Soundstage 4 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (where the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian exhibit was formerly housed) in May, Merida will become the first face meet and greet character representing a Disney/Pixar property within the Disney Parks.
According to the casting notice, she will be 5’4″ – 5’6″ in height and is described as ‘impetuous, rough and tumble, strong-willed, determined and playful.’ She is also expected — at times — to be accompanied by a puppet version of the three cubs from the film.

‘Kingdom Keepers V’ Pre-Release Signing at Walt Disney World
On Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30, guests at the Walt Disney World Resort will have the opportunity to meet author Ridley Pearson and purchase a signed copy of his latest book, Kingdom Keepers V: Shell Game’ days before its official release in stores on April 3, 2012.
Pearson will be at Once Upon a Toy in the Downtown Disney District Marketplace on March 29, 2012 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm and at the Writer’s Stop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 30 from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. Note that park admission will be required for the Disney’s Hollywood Studios event, but not for Once Upon a Toy.
As the five Kingdom Keepers enter high school, everything is about to change. The Maintenance Base that controls all four parks in Disney World is under attack by the a group determined to change Disney forever. Relationships between the Keepers are no longer as simple as they once were. In fact, nothing is as simple as it once was. An after-hours visit to Typhoon Lagoon is a game changer. The Keepers lose one of their most valuable supporters. But there’s work to do?
The Disney Dream leaves Port Canaveral on an historic cruise to Los Angeles with a special treat in store for guests: the Disney Host Interactive teenage guides are on board. Finn, Maybeck, Charlene, Willa, and Philby join celebrity guests as the DHI experience moves to one of the most advanced cruise ships in the world.
But all is not right below decks. Strange things are happening. Unexplained phenomena. Only the Kingdom Keepers know the truth behind their invitation to be in attendance: nearly every Disney villain is aboard the ship, including Maleficent.
The Overtakers have infiltrated the cast and crew. And no one knows what they have planned.
The Dream sets sail filled with enthusiastic guests and crew. But not for long. Maleficent takes over a video screen and warns the guests of trouble to come. With the ship arriving to the beaches of Castaway Cay–its first of many exotic ports of call–the Kingdom Keepers are under attack; back home the Base is threatened and about to fall. The Overtakers have expanded in ways never foreseen, and it’s clear they intend to use this element of surprise to accomplish what has eluded them so far: victory.
But not if Finn Whitman and friends have anything to say about it.
Kingdom Keepers V: Shell Game can be pre-ordered now from Amazon.com
UPDATE #1: 2/24/12 – Wristbands will be required to attend the signing with Ridley Pearson. Wristbands will be distributed while supplies last with purchase of Kingdom Keepers V: Shell Game. Guests will be able to purchase the book at Once Upon a Toy on March 29 beginning at 3 pm and at park opening at the Writer’s Stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 30.

CONFIRMED: ‘John Carter’ Early Screenings at Walt Disney World (Passholders)
As far as we’re concerned, impatience is a virtue. Yesterday we reported that we believed Walt Disney World would be offering free, pre-release screenings of Walt Disney Studios’ John Carter. Thanks to activity on the wdwscreeningtickets.com website, we are now able to confirm that the screenings will in fact be taking place and will be offered exclusively to passholders.
The screenings will take place at the Premier Theatre at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (the site notes valid theme park admission is required, but.. uh, it’s a passholder event) on the weekend of March 3 and 4. Showtimes will be at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm each day. Space is limited and registration for the event will only take place online. The film, which is rated PG-13 by the MPAA, will be shown in 3D.
Based on the registration process, guests of passholders are not allowed. This means not only does each passholder in a family must register independently, but that due to capacity issues, families risk not all being able to sign up for the same screening. Registration appears to be fully functional and produces a PDF voucher, but it does not officially open until February 1, so we advise to wait until then (or an official announcement from Disney Parks) to register for your best chance to attend.
