All 53 contestants for the title of Miss America 2011 visited Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort on Friday, August 27, 2010. Representing fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, the ladies continued the Miss America tradition of walking together down Main Street USA toward Cinderella Castle. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Cinderella and Belle met the 53 contestants for photos before the women broke up into smaller groups to see the rest of the park. Through the day, guests may have spotted contestants on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Mad Tea Party, Dumbo the Flying Elephant and other attractions. The 53 Miss American 2011 contestants also recorded interviews that are scheduled to appear in the 2011 Miss America Pageant broadcast. Returning to ABC for the 90th anniversary of the Miss America Pageant, the competition will broadcast live from Las Vegas on Saturday, January 15 at 8 P.M. ET. As the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and one of the nation’s leading achievement programs, the Miss America Organization last year made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. The 53 Miss America 2011 contestants are in the Orlando area to attend the annual Miss America Outstanding Teen Competition.

Amar’e Stoudemire, who recently joined the NBA’s New York Knicks as a power forward, visited the Walt Disney World Resort with friends and family. The clan visited the Magic Kingdom yesterday where Stoudemire was at an obvious strong disadvantage when he took up a game of one-on-one with Mickey Mouse.
Stoudemire also spent some time at the Main Street Confection where, with the assistance of cast member Naima Fernandes, he created his own Knicks-colored blue and orange sprinkled candied apples shaped like Mickey.

In need of a Halloween costume idea? Your friends at The Pirates League at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom can help — they’re offering an easy way to become a pirate. The process starts with makeup to create a black eye. Highlights around black makeup near the eye make it appear as though it’s puffy and an ordinary red eyeliner pencil make the eye look “sore.”
On its official blog, Disney Parks has shared some concept art for the upcoming meet & greet with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider at the Disneyland Resort. The art and blog entry reveal Disney’s plans on how to turn Rapunzel’s ~70 feet of hair into a reality.
Rapunzel and Flynn Rider will begin greeting guests on October 15 at both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. At Walt Disney World, the duo can be found at the Magic Kingdom in the Fairytale Garden near Cinderella Castle, where Storytime with Belle currently takes place (that show ends September 12 in preparation of the transition). At Disneyland, Rapunzel and Flynn will be found at what is currently Gepetto’s Sweet Shoppe.
We have learned that the Harmony Barber Shop located on Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom has recently begun accepting appointments in advance. This marks the first time that we are aware of in the shop’s history that guests have been able to reserve a time in advance as opposed to simply walking up and waiting until a spot becomes available.
The shop serves guests daily from 9 am – 6 pm with cuts averaging to just below $20 per adult, or $14 for children 12 and under with a special ‘baby’s first haircut’ option available. According to the Disney Parks blog, the shop serves about 400 guests of the Walt Disney World resort each week.
