You really have to hand it to Disney Interactive Studios’ mobile games unit. It would have been quite acceptable enough to have simply released ‘Where’s My Water?’ and left it at that and it would still stand today as a shining example as to how mobile apps should be made.
Disney Publishing Worldwide announced today that two more storybook app titles based on the original Marvel Origins series will join ‘The Amazing Spider-Man: An Origin Story‘ app, which launched last month. The new titles, both narrated by comic book legend Stan Lee, include ‘Avengers Origins: Hulk’ and ‘Avengers Origins: Assemble!’ which will be available for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch in February 2012.
As we announced yesterday, Disney Interactive did not disappoint when it introduced its third expansion to the amazingly popular ‘Where’s My Water?‘ app for Apple iOS and Android devices. In addition to the new chapter, ‘Stretched Thin,’ which introduces water balloons and new physics, Disney also released ‘Where’s My Water? Free‘ which features ten exclusive levels in addition to another ten levels being released over the course of ten days, beginning with yesterday. Swampy the Gator’s perpetual quest for a bath in Disney Interactive’s ‘Where’s My Water?’ app for Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and Android devices caused some temperatures to rise yesterday as 20 new levels were introduced. The second update of its kind since the game’s release just a couple of months ago, ‘Boiling Point’ introduces the element of steam to the game along with new physics to tease players through the additional levels.
Disney recently released ‘Disney Pix,’ its free software for its new AppClix iPad ‘appcessory.’ Manufactured by Vivitar, the AppClix effectively replaces Disney’s previous lines of licensed PIX digital cameras. In addition to being able to plug directly into the iPad to download and share photos, the AppClix boasts a 7MP camera, which is an impressive milestone for what is basically being marketed as a toy.
Admittedly we were a bit hasty with our take on the Disney Parks Memories App when it was first released a few days ago for the Apple iPhone and iPad 2 devices. Although it was soon pulled as we also reported, it was re-launched last night with some minor revisions, along with an Android version. After it was re-released and we were invited to experience some of the enhancements it offers when you visit specific locations, we decided to take a second look.
Disney Mobile today released “Tap Tap Muppets” for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The app also includes three of the most memorable songs from the Muppets tribute compilation, “The Green Album.”
Yesterday, Disney Parks released its first official app for Apple iOS devices, titled ‘Disney Memories.’ Inspired by the ‘Let the Memories Begin‘ campaign, the free, well-intended app was practically imperfect in every way and was consequently ill-received by every one we asked in an informal poll. The description for the app was as follows:
Make your pictures come to life with Disney magic.
Plus, with the help of Disney Parks magic, some of your favorite Disney Characters might be even closer than you think. Whether you just met Mickey at a Disney Park, or you are dreaming of meeting Mickey for the very first time, this app will let you transform your pictures into very special Disney Memories you will want to share.
