They say it’s a man’s world, and normally the opinionated hosts of ABC’s “The View” would strongly disagree. However, they’ve collectively decided to entertain the idea, for one week ONLY, because the five men joining them at the semi-circular “Hot Topics” table on May 17-21 are friends. So, for the first time in the 13-year-history of “The View,” five men will consecutively co-host for the entire hour (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET).
May 17 – Barbara’s friend, Bryant Renfroe (“The View”)
May 18 – Elisabeth’s friend/husband, Tim Hasselbeck (ESPN)
May 19 – Whoopi’s friend, André Leon Talley (“America’s Next Top Model” and Vogue)
May 20 – Sherri’s friend, comedian Vernard “Bone” Hampton (“All About Steve”)
May 21 – Joy Behar’s friend, Mario Cantone (“Sex and the City”)
Bryant Renfroe started work on Barbara Walters’ daytime talk show, “The View,” in 1997 for which he has won seven Daytime Emmy(r) Awards for Outstanding Hairstylist. Renfroe has appeared more than 50 times on “The View,” covering a number of hair related topics, including the best hairstyle to shape your face and how to fix a bad haircut. Renfroe has worked with Barbara Walters for 21 years, including on ABC’s “20/20” and “The Barbara Walters Specials,” and has traveled with her around the world for her many interviews.
Tim Hasselbeck is an analyst for ESPN (“NFL Live”) and a former professional American football quarterback for the Washington Redskins, New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles. He is the younger brother of Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle Seahawks) and the son of NFL tight end Don Hasselbeck. Tim is married to his college sweetheart, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and they have three children, Grace, Taylor and Isaiah. Although he was a featured co-host on “The View” on January 28, 2010, when he and his wife swapped jobs, this will be Tim’s first time co-hosting alongside his wife. He has made a total of four appearances on “The View.”
André Leon Talley is the former American editor-at-large for Vogue, listed as contributing editor in the April 2010 masthead, and is currently a judge for “America’s Next Top Model.” For over 25 years, he has been front and center at all the top fashion shows. A mentor to up-and-coming designers and influential in promoting young designers, Out magazine ranked Talley as one of the “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America” in 2007. He is a member of the board of Trustees from Savannah College of Art & Design, where he also holds an honorary Doctorate of Humanities. Talley has made five prior appearances on “The View,” but this is his first turn as co-host.
Vernard “Bone” Hampton is one of redemptive comedy’s most in-demand funnymen whose comedic smarts know no bounds. Whether working the comedy club circuit, doing his thing at a church gig or making a splash on a hit sitcom, Hampton is a rising comedic gem. On television, he has appeared in primetime shows including “Medium” and “My Name is Earl.” Currently he can be seen in the film “All About Steve.” This marks Hampton’s first guest appearance on the show.
Mario Cantone is a stand-up comedian, actor, singer, writer, film, TV and Broadway star. Probably best known for his break out role as Anthony Marentino from HBO’s hit series “Sex and the City,” Cantone has made a total of 48 appearances on “The View,” more than any other guest. His energetic style and quick acidic wit has long captivated audiences, especially his wide range of eccentric character impersonations, including celebrities Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli, as well as family members. Next up for Cantone is a return to the big screen in this summer’s highly anticipated motion picture, “Sex and the City 2.”
