Disney Announces Casting Roles for ‘Frozen’ Musical for Theme Park


FrozenEarlier this year, we shared news that Imagineering’s Disney Creative Entertainment (DCE) division had made plans to workshop the upcoming staged production of ‘Frozen,’ which is set to replace ‘Aladdin’ at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theatre in spring of 2016.

Casting calls have now been published for the production itself, which will be directed by stage veteran Liesl Tommy. The roles, descriptions and requirements are as follows:

  • Elsa: Princess who becomes Queen; fearfully plagued by powers she hasn’t yet learned to control; lives a life of isolation separated from society and those she loves, including her sister. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano; mix/belt
  • Anna: Elsa’s younger sister; persistent, daring and highly optimistic; at times reacts impulsively; longs to reconnect with her sister Elsa; readily believes she’s found her one true love in Hans. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Soprano; mix/belt
  • Hans: Handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom; debonair, charming, possible dark undertones. 5’11”and above. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor
  • Kristoff: Ice harvester; rugged blue-collar type; a little rough around the edges, yet endearingly awkward; not your typical Disney hero; protector and loyal.6’0” and above. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Baritone
  • Olaf: A snowman created by Elsa’s magic; kind-hearted with a childlike innocence and honesty that makes him say the painfully obvious with positive gusto; 100% honest, 100% sincere. Strong dancer, a plus.All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Tenor; must have a high “A” full voice.
  • Bulda/Queen/Chorus: Motherly and sassy troll/Mother of Anna and Elsa. A confident mover. All Ethnicities Vocal Range: Alto; belt.
  • Grand Pabbie/Bishop/Chorus: Wise and all-knowing troll/Officiates Coronation, Solemn and Formal. Warm and gracious. A confident mover. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Baritone/Bass.
  • Young Anna/Chorus: Small adult to play Anna as a child as seen in the beginning of the feature film. Giddy, lively and adorable. Must be a strong mover. 5’1” and under.All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Soprano 1
  • Young Elsa/Chorus: Small adult to play Elsa as a child as seen in the beginning of the feature film. Sweet and fun loving, and kind older sister. 5’1” and under.All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Soprano 2/Alto
  • Young Kristoff/Chorus: Adult to play Kristoff as a child as seen in the beginning of the feature film. Young and spunky. Must be a strong dancer. 5’6” or shorter. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone
  • King/Chorus: Father of Anna and Elsa. Serious with gravitas. A confident mover. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Baritone
  • Kai/Chorus: Male; loyal castle servant; very formal butler; one of the few people Anna has contact with once the castle is locked up. Strong dancer a plus. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Baritone
  • Gerda/Chorus: Female; loyal castle servant; warm but formal; one of the few people Anna has contact with once the castle is locked up. A confident mover. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/Alto
  • Sven/Chorus: The loyal reindeer. Male; 5’10”-6’1” – puppetry skills a plus. Must be a strong dancer. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Tenor
  • Royal Guard/Thug/Chorus: Royal Guard/bodyguard hired by the scheming Duke of Weselton to protect and serve him at all costs. 6’0” and above with athletic build. Must be a strong mover. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Bass
  • Oaken/Royal Guard/Thug/Chorus: Heavy Norwegian accent; a big guy, good-natured and helpful, don’t cross him/Royal Guard/bodyguard hired by the scheming Duke of Weselton to protect and serve him at all costs. 6’0” and above with athletic build. Must be a strong dancer. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Baritone/Bass
  • Duke of Weselton/Chorus: Arrogant and meddlesome; as Arendelle’s closest trade partner, he hopes to exploit the kingdom for its riches. Hilarious and vain. Great comic timing. A strong dancer a plus. All Ethnicities. Vocal Range: Tenor
  • Female Chorus: Looking for all types, all ethnicities. Vocal Range: Looking for all vocal ranges: Soprano 1 (legit; but should be able to sing pop style), Mezzo Soprano, Soprano, Alto.

It should be noted (if it is not obvious from the role descriptions above) that the company is strongly advocating for a diverse cast.

  1. Please give this movie a rest. I’m hearing that dang song almost every day at work driving me crazy. The movie wasn’t the gray, but some people like it for who knows what. Plenty of people are getting sick of everything that is frozen related. Please stop milking it Disney.
