Cars Land Attractions Get Web Pages, New Details
The official Disneyland web site is being updated with new information and photos on the new areas opening on June 15, 2012 at Disney California Adventure, including Cars Land. Sampled here are just a few of the photos featured on the website, plus the official descriptions for the new attractions and dining options coming to the area. Each section is linked to its respective page on the official site.
RADIATOR SPRING RACERS (Height requirement 40″; Child Swap, FASTPASS and Single Rider enabled)
Start your engines! The ride of your life is about to begin! Rocket through the desert landscape of Ornament Valley in a thrilling auto racing competition that includes some of your favorite locations and characters from the Disney/Pixar movie Cars.
Before you hit the open road, you’ll stroll through the original settlement of Radiator Springs. See how Stanley capitalized on a natural cold spring and built a series of ingenious attractions — like a “pull up and fill-up” coolant station, a building made entirely out of empty oil bottles and the Comfy Cavern Motor Court — that grew into the lovely town we know today.
Ornament Valley and Radiator Springs
The journey begins peacefully enough, as you board a 6-person car for a scenic road trip through Ornament Valley, including a drive by the valley’s famous plunging waterfall, Radiator Falls.
Next, you’ll head towards the town of Radiator Springs and along the way you’ll encounter some familiar faces — including Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sally, Luigi, Guido, Mack, Ramone and Doc Hudson — who will welcome you to the big race and help you along the way. Well, they’ll mostly help you; Mater is known to recruit newcomers to participate in one of his favorite activities, tractor tipping.
To get you ready for the race, you’ll fine-tune your car at either Luigi’s Casa Della Tires or Ramone’s House of Body Art. You’ll want to ride multiple times to see both!
For the thrilling conclusion of the attraction, you’ll be pitted against another car filled with Guests for a friendly competition to see who can get to the checkered flag first. Zip over hills, zoom around high-banked turns, and cruise down camelback straightaways past spectacular red-rock formations. While there is only one winner, everyone is sure to have a great time — just like in the movie Cars, it’s about the journey, not the finish line!
MATER’S JUNKYARD JAMBOREE (Height requirement 32″)
Come on down to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree for a tow-tappin’ square dance hosted by Mater from the Disney/Pixar movie Cars. Board a trailer pulled by an adorable baby tractor and swing in time to lively music sung by, you guessed it, Mater!
Mater rounded up a herd of baby tractors for some old-fashioned dancing fun. If you look closely, you’ll notice that no 2 of the 22 tractors are the same. They have different colors, spots, mouths and eye colors. The one thing they all share: they love to dance!
Each tractor can accommodate up to 2 adults and 1 child.
Mater is tucked away in his shed where he’s singing and operating his ingenious improvised jukebox — made out of discarded oil drums, hubcaps, hoods, horns, mufflers and other assorted auto parts. The attraction features 7 original songs sung by Mater and performed by a Disneyland Park favorite, Billy Hill & the Hillbillies.
LUIGI’S FLYING TIRES (Height requirement 32″)
Float on a cushion of air aboard a larger-than-life tire, thanks to Luigi from the Disney/Pixar movie Cars. Slide, spin and laugh as you lift ever-so-slightly off the ground on a 9-foot-wide Fettuccini-brand tire. You’ll be blown away by Luigi’s Flying Tires!
The Flying Tires
You’ll quickly get the hang of soaring around Luigi’s 8,000-square-foot Italian garden and tire storage yard. All you need to do is lean in the direction that you wish to move. Plus, you can adjust the joystick-like air valve on the tire to spin while you float.
6,714 air vents blow over 1.86 million cubic feet of air per minute to keep your tire floating ever so slightly above the ground. This marvel of modern machinery provides a completely unique ride experience — it’s almost like you’re on top of a gigantic air hockey table!
Each tire can accommodate up to 2 adults and 1 child or 1 adult and 2 children.
The fun begins before you even hop aboard your flying tire. You’ll tour Luigi’s showroom and office, where you’ll see his humorous collection of office supplies, mementos and photographs. Keep your eyes open for a few surprises!
Luigi’s Flying Tires uses a completely new, state-of-the-art ride system, but the attraction is inspired by a classic Disneyland Park attraction, Flying Saucers. More than 5 million aspiring space explorers rode the Flying Saucers from August 6, 1961 to August 5, 1966. Even decades later, it’s still a favorite memory of many Disneyland Resort Guests — including Cars director John Lasseter. Now, the unique experience of floating on air can be relived and shared with a whole new generation of fans!
FLO’S V8 CAFE
Cruise on in to Flo’s V8 Café and fill up your tank on classic American cuisine with a new spin. Inspired by the timeless drive-up diners along Route 66, Flo’s V8 Café celebrates the pioneering spirit of the open road. If you’re looking for the most popular restaurant in all of Carburetor County, just head towards the signature 27-foot-tall neon V8 sign!
Get your engines revving in the morning with breakfast favorites like chicken tamales with scrambled eggs or French toast served with salted caramel and bananas. For lunch, try inventive cuisine like Veggie-Tater Bake or indulge in home-style rotisserie classics including pork loin, citrus turkey and New York strip loin. Top off your meal with delicious single-serve fruit pies including apple-cheddar and cherry flavors!
Dining Area and Patio
The food at Flo’s is only half the fun! From both the huge glass windows of the interior dining area and the open-air patio, you can take in the majestic mountains and expanses of Ornament Valley — and even catch the occasional car speed past on Radiator Springs Racers.
While you’re eating and enjoying the view, be sure to look around to see the mementos from the singing career of the café owner, Flo from the Disney/Pixar movie Cars. Another section of the dining area is a museum that showcases the racing career of Cars legend Doc Hudson.
