When the Disney California Adventure expansion at the Disneyland Resort opens on June 15, 2012, it will include entertainment that will ring a bell with many a Disney fan. Earlier today, the Resort issued a casting notice for an act that appeared vaguely familiar, calling for both male and female improv actors for a ‘brand new show.’ Specifically, those hoping to win roles must have ‘strong improv skills, great with audience interaction and ability to create stories with guests. Strong vocals with ability to deliver tight harmonies with music and a cappella is a plus.’
Given the conceptual similarities between the new Buena Vista Street area of Disney California Adventure and its distant cousin, Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort, with its Citizens of Hollywood comedy troupe, it seemed a very logical and short leap that the west coast park was planning on taking a cue from the east and introducing the same type of element into DCA.
A quick Google search indeed turned up plans for ‘Citizens of Buena Visa Street,’ whose presence was mentioned in a commemorative guidebook given to park Cast Members. According to the book, ‘guests will encounter a series of characters from “old time Los Angeles,” who specialize in creating impromptu laughs, smiles… and, of course, memories. You just never know who you might bump into along Buena Vista Street!’ (source)
