Disney Theatrical today confirmed a report by Stitch Kingdom made just two days ago: the staged adaptation of ‘Shakespeare in Love’ will in fact be making its theatrical debut in summer of 2014 at the Noel Coward Theatre in London.
Contrary to previous reports, however (and none that originated from Stitch Kingdom), the adaptation of the Miramax film is credited to Lee Hall. It will be directed by Declan Donnellan and is being presented as a co-production between Disney Theatrical and Sonia Friedman Productions.
According to the website we first revealed, ShakespeareInLove.com, tickets will be available to the general public starting February 3, 2014, while a special ‘priority booking’ window will commence on November 26 of this year. Visitors to the website have the option of joining a mailing list which will undoubtedly reveal further details as they become available.
Disney has not yet confirmed intentions to bring the show to Broadway, which is a safe move considering the show has yet to be seen by anyone, but we believe it is within their intent to do so should the show prove to be successful.
