Briefly appearing on the official D23 Expo website prior to its removal, Hewlett-Packard (the expo’s sorcerer sponsor) advertised that it will be bringing its augmented reality experience, Aurasma to the show.
Throughout the show floor, there will be several opportunities to experience the app, indicated by the Aurasma A-shaped icon. By scanning the icon, an ‘aura’ will be revealed through the app. According to the supplied description, ‘auras can be as simple as a video and a link to a web page or as complex as a lifelike 3D animation.’
Spots around the floor which indicated that Aurasma will be accessible are: Collectors Forum, Iron Man display, Anaheim Convention Center Lobby, StagePass Kiosk, D23 Arena Entrance and the Anaheim Convention Center Lobby.
The free Aurasma app is currently available for both iOS devices in the App Store as well as for Android devices on Google Play. In addition to allowing users to engage in Aurasma activities, it also allows them to create and share their own auras as well as locate nearby auras on a map via location services/GPS.
Special thanks to @AutumnDTS for the heads up.
