The Scientific and Technical Awards Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 15 scientific and technical achievements have been selected for further awards consideration, three of which have been created between Disney and Pixar. Although the list has been published, it’s completely preliminary and further innovations are being invited to be considered. The committee will meet in December to make recommendations to Academy’s Board of Governors, which will make the final awards decisions.
Among those devices and processes being considered are Pixar Animation Studios’ Misterd and Alfred (a job queuing and distributing rendering system) and XGen, an arbitrary primitive generator from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
