DIY Network’s ‘Yard Crashers’ Goes Backstage at Flower & Garden Festival

NEW YORK – April 2009 – (PR) Licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan normally surprises unsuspecting homeowners at the local home improvement store with a complete transformation of their own yard on DIY Network’s hit show Yard Crashers. But in DIY Network’s one-hour special, Yard Crashers: Disney Epcot on Monday, April 27 at 9 p.m. ET, he’ll take viewers on an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the largest and most famous yards in America – the Epcot® International Flower & Garden Festival at Walt Disney World Resort.

In Yard Crashers: Disney Epcot, Howard and Julie Callendar and their two teenage sons, Ian and Drake of Orangevale, Calif., work with Hassan to crash their own corner of Walt Disney World and give viewers a taste of how it is transformed into a 300-acre garden oasis, filled with over 30 million blooms during the Epcot® International Flower & Garden Festival.

“The treat for me when it comes to hosting Yard Crashers is having the chance to surprise unsuspecting shoppers with a complete yard transformation and teach them a little of what I know,” said Hassan. “Then this opportunity comes with Disney where I was able to surprise a lucky homeowner and his family with a trip to Disney World to ‘crash’ the International Flower & Garden Festival.” He continued, “I get to do what I love at the happiest place on earth.”

Hassan joins 300 Disney horticulturists as they work around the clock, preparing 100 floating mini-gardens, 45 “flower towers,” 750 container gardens, 300,000 bedding plants, 50 Disney character topiaries (including the overnight production of the Mickey and Minnie topiary creations) and many more elements to transform the park into a colorful landscape haven full of gardens and massive topiaries. Hassan and his accomplices, the Callendar family, construct Lush Xeriscapes, a low-water xeriscape garden complete with a gazebo and a big-screen television. The garden, located in the Imagination Walkways section of Epcot®, will let viewers and park visitors learn how they can also build incredible landscapes and conserve their water use at the same time.

Encore presentations of Yard Crashers: Disney Epcot will air on Thursday, April 30 at 9 p.m. ET, Saturday, May 2 at 8 a.m. ET and Sunday, May 3 at 7 p.m. ET on DIY Network. 1. I am a big fan for diy and especially yard crashers.I love these shows.I would very much like for you to yard crash mine. I have been unable to work in my yards in over 2 years due to my husband having to be put on disability and I have my mom who is now on hospice and I have to take care of her. So I have not been able to do anything outside in my yards. Please can you help ?

  2. I LOVE THE YARD CRASHERS.,HAVE ON SERIES RECORD.WHAT I WOULD GIVE TO HAVE THEM CRASH MY BACK YARD.JUST PURCHASED A HOME WITH A BEAUTIFUL BACKYARD,FULL OF POTENTIAL FOR A CRASH.TOOK OUT THE POOL AND THERE IS A HOLE THAT NEEDSTO BE FILLED. BACKYARD IS COBBLED STONE AND UNFINISHED.JUST HV NOT THE FUNDS TO FINISH
I WONDER IF THE FAIRY GODMOTHER WOULD SPIN HER WAND AND SEND THEM TO ME. AAAAH ALL ONE COULD DO IS IMAGINE. I COULD JUST SEE THE NEIGHBOURS FREAKING OUT

  3. i love dirt! sold my house as I didn't have any room left to plant and bought a yard in Seven Persons, Alberta that was three lots(dimensions 25 x 100 FT each lot) and have been raking up gravel where the previous owners had a dog run – ended up getting in a bobcat for my garden area with new dirt so my garden veggies don't have to compete with gravel that was below the surface and have planted perenialls all over the yard. such fun but am still continuing to landscape…made myself a rock sidewalk which was alot of work…dug in large boulders with a flat side and then proceeded to use up the gravel from the dogrun. Wish I had underground sprinklers as when my husband was alive he installed sprinklers and did landscaping..I helped him all I could but only did the cleanup for the finish of the sprinklers..have laid alot of sod in my time and now have to wait for spring in order to continue working on my projects. So far I have turned a prairie landscape into a oasis in the middle of the dry Alberta prairie. I loved your show and plan to look up landscaping ideas.

  5. I have a plain ugly looking front yard. No matter what we do to feed it offers no life. We have lived here 14 years and would love to have an oasis of the same kind yard crashers create. Please help. Chicago, Il SANDY
