Forever 21 Launches ‘Mickey & Co.’ Limited Edition Collection

Today Disney and Forever 21 launched a new collection of limited-edition women’s apparel and accessories, under the Mickey & Co. collection by Forever 21 label. Inspired by vintage Mickey Mouse designs with an ’80’s vibe, the collection is available now at Forever 21 stores, just in time for the holiday season.

The Mickey & Co. brand was first introduced in 1984, and the apparel collection it adorned was one of the fastest selling collections in Disney’s history. The Mickey & Co. collection by Forever 21 features Mickey Mouse and friends in exuberant artwork with bold pops of color in 46 pieces including reversible pop-over sweatshirts, oversized tees with rolled and tacked sleeves, denim on denim with a two pocket chambray shirt, and a screened denim jacket.

The collection is brought to life by world recognized model and fashion influencer, Jasmine Sanders. Embedded below is a behind-the-scenes photo shoot of Sanders, inspired by the 1980’s pop hit ‘Hey Mickey’ by Toni Basil.

Two social media contests will be held in conjunction with the launch of the collection. Beginning November 7, fans can participate in the ultimate Hidden Mickey Challenge to locate Hidden Mickey Mouse designs across Forever 21’s social platforms. Following the launch, the #ThrowBackMickey Instagram Challenge will ask fans to upload a nostalgic photo of their favorite Mickey & Co. brand memory with at least one of the characters featured in the collection. Forever 21’s Facebook fans will be able to vote for the three grand prize winners who will receive awesome Mickey-themed swag!

The Mickey & Co. collection by Forever 21 will be available in select stores globally and online at Forever21.com.

    But what buyers don’t realize is Forever 21 is owned by Do Wo Chang, a born-again evangelical christian. When you make a purchase read the bottom of your take-home packaging — John 3:16 is printed on every bag.

    One of the bastions of Disney has been their vanilla approach to religion and religious iconery. One of the reasons Disney is so popular globally is they never mix religion with Mickey Mouse. One can wonder if Disney Consumer Products knows what is printed in every Forever 21 bag, or if they are turning a blind eye to it to make a buck.

    Frankly, it doesn’t matter what religious message is present when you buy Disney branded merchandise. If consumers equate Disney to any religion, the Disney image is forever tarnished.
