According to the Home Movie Day Project, Home Movies Day — which takes place this year on October 12, 2013 at the Linwood Dunn Theater, Pickford Center — is an annual celebration of amateur films and filmmaking at many local venues worldwide, providing an opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience in their community.
The project encourages families to share their own home videos to be screened and shared with their community during a block that will occur from 12 through 4 pm. In addition to the public sharing/screening, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Academy Film Archive will present a special all-new screening of clips from home videos of celebrities of the golden age of cinema. Those scheduled to be included in the presentation are: Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Billie Burke, Marlene Dietrich, Mitzi Gaynor, Betty Grable, Cary Grant, Jean Harlow, Shirley Jones, Florenz Ziegfeld and Walt Disney.
The bonus program will run at 7 pm and is a ticketed event. Tickets will cost $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members. Additional information and ticket purchasing opportunities will be made available at the Academy’s events site.
