Iger: ‘The Incredibles,’ ‘Cars’ Sequels and New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Attraction in Works

Treasure Cove at Shanghai Disneyland (Concept Art)At the 2014 Annual Shareholders meeting being held in Portland, Oregon, Bob Iger made several announcements related to various arms of the Walt Disney Company.

When it comes to future film productions, Iger announced that The Incredibles director Brad Bird is working on the story for a sequel. He also acknowledged that Disney/Pixar is working on a third installment of the Cars franchise. While he had little to offer on the Star Wars Episode VII front, he did state that the story takes place thirty years after the Return of the Jedi installment and will feature ‘familiar faces’ as well as a ‘trio of young new faces.’

Speaking on Disney Parks and Resorts, Iger’s biggest reveal was for that of Shanghai Disneyland which is currently in development. Noting the importance of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ attraction to existing Disney Parks, Iger said Shanghai would include a brand new land called Treasure Cove which will have an attraction titled ‘Battle of the Sunken Treasure’ and it would be based on the four Pirates of the Caribbean film installments.

Iger also announced the dates and location for the 2015 Disney D23 Expo, which will once again be held in Anaheim, from August 14 – 16, 2015. Advance tickets for D23 Expo 2015 will go on sale at D23Expo.com beginning August 14, 2014. D23 Members will receive special pricing on both one- and three-day tickets to the event, which is open to the general public. D23 Gold and Silver Members will also be entitled to early admission to the Expo show floor. D23 Charter Members will enjoy access to the Expo’s Charter Member Lounge. Members will also have an opportunity to purchase the Sorcerer Package, which provides a host of special benefits and amenities.
