Kickstarter Campaign to Restore Home Where Walt Disney Was Born

Walt Disney Home concept art by Clara MoonJust outside Chicago, built by his father Elias Disney in 1893, stands the house in which both Walt Disney and his older brother Roy were born and spent the early years of their lives. The decades since have brought significant wear and tear to the building and now the current property owners — Dina Benadon and Brent Young — are seeking to restore the home to its original glory to preserve its history and honor the legends from whence they came.

To do so, they have also assembled an advisory board which includes a cast of experts who have been involved with the Disney company as well as architects and historians and have taken their aspirations to Kickstarter where they are hoping to raise a total of $500,000 within the next month to achieve the project’s completion. To round out the campaign, a bounty of beautiful rewards (both aesthetically and nostalgically pleasing) have been assembled, ranging from posters of concept art, pins and t-shirts, all the way to owning a piece of the existing building, ‘hard hat’ tours and even spending a night in the home.
