The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that three of Disney’s films from the past year — both of Marvel Studios’ films, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World as well as Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Lone Ranger have been shortlisted for nomination consideration in the category of visual effects (VFX).
The other films being considered for nominations in the category are: Elysium, Gravity, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Oblivion, Pacific Rim, Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z. The shortlist was determined by the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee and members of the branch will have the opportunity to review a ten minute package from each film on January 9.
