Except that what will be in store hasn’t happened before — at least not like this. On December 10, 2013, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release the beloved 1964 classic, Mary Poppins, on Blu-ray for the first time ever. That would place its release just a few days before Saving Mr. Banks opens in limited release on December 13 and on the same day its soundtrack, with music composed by Thomas Newman, is slated to be released.
Despite butchering the spelling of iconic songs such as Spoonful of Sugar, Chimm Chim Cher-ee and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, the advertisement seen here is absolutely legit and appears in the current issue of trade magazine Home Media — we took the liberty of reproducing the ad in its highest resolution currently found online.
Given that this is the closest thing to an official announcement we have so far, the only known bonus features so far include ‘Mary-oke’ sing-along and a documentary called Becoming Mr. Sherman, presumably about Richard Sherman, of the Sherman Brothers /aka/ ‘the boys.’
The ad also references disneystore.com/MaryPoppinsBluray which is not currently active. As always, we will provide more information as it becomes available to us.
