Disney Store Expands ‘Disney Nerd’ Merchandise for Back to School, Plans to Sell Localized Merchandise Online
Arguably one of the more successful of the recent Disney franchises, was the nerdification of the Fab Five by Disney Parks and its theme park merchandise. Riding the waves of the relatively recent rise in celebration of the ‘nerd culture,’ new heights of cuteness have been achieved using nothing more than a pair of thick-rimmed eyeglasses, pocket protectors and a catchy tagline.
Disney Store has grabbed on to the trend itself, offering limited merchandise which even spans across a broader range of Disney toons, including Stitch. For the back to school season in 2011, look for even more ‘Disney Nerd’ merchandise from Disney Store including the Mickey and Minnie 11″ beanies pictured above.
In completely unrelated news, it will be safe to expect DisneyStore.com will begin selling select, localized merchandise from its stores in flagship cities/locations. To date, DisneyStore.com has set up placeholders for Chicago, Hawaii, New York and San Francisco, but no merchandise has been listed yet. This could also mean that limited release vinylmation in these cities will be available online.
