It’s been well over a year since we first mentioned that a staged adaptation of the Walt Disney Studios cult classic Newsies was on its way, but last week saw the first performance of the newly adapted musical at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey. Featuring a new book by Harvey Fierstein and new songs by the original team of Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, the show has been delighting audiences to rave reviews and has an official opening date of September 25, 2011.
Yesterday, Jeremy Jordan (Jack Kelly) and the rest of the cast made an appearance on ABC’s ‘The View’ in which they performed ‘Sante Fe’ and ‘Seize the Day’ from the show. ABC has provided us with photos from the appearance, which we provide here, along with a recording of the show’s performance, courtesy of Disney Theatrical.
In addition to the photos from the televised performance, I have included a few photos of my own from when I attended a performance this past weekend, in which I had the pleasure of encountering Disney Theatrical President Thomas Schumacher, Director Jeff Calhoun and Composer Alan Menken.
Below are photos of merchandise created specifically for the new show. Click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger version as well as a description and price. Those unable to attend the show in person but wish to purchase the merchandise can do so by contacting Ty via email at [email protected].
