As the old saying goes, sometimes a carrot nose is just a carrot nose. While the likelihood that there is a new Frozen short on the horizon, Random House has announced additional information regarding the hush-hush Frozen: Northern Lights, which now appears to be more of a franchise. About a month ago, we reported that a synopsis for the upcoming 224-page ‘adaptation’ had been released. At that time, the title had been changed to a TBA, but now we not only have a title, but an actual cover and author’s name as well. The new book will be titled Frozen Northern Lights: Journey to the Lights and it was written by Suzanne Francis. Francis has written several Disney titles for Random House, including novelizations of Pixar’s Inside Out and Disney’s Zootopia and some ancillary titles to boot. The book is slated for release on July 5, 2016 and is available for pre-order. The official publisher’s description is as follows:
‘Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and their friends from Disney Frozen are helping Little Rock the troll earn his tracking crystal. Join them as they embark on a mountain adventure under the Northern Lights! This special novelization features 8 pages of spectacular photos of the real Northern Lights in a beautiful jacketed hardcover format. It’s perfect for children ages 6 to 9!’
While this is the first and lengthiest (by far) title in the Frozen: Northern Lights franchise, it won’t be the first. Previously released titles have now been updated to include themselves in the franchise. They include Big Golden Book Kristoff’s Crystal Adventure (Disney Frozen: Northern Lights) and sticker book Oaken’s Invention (Disney Frozen: Northern Lights), both out on September 6, 2016. In addition, Random House has also announced The Right Track for January 3, 2017. Disney’s former ‘Frozen: Northern Lights’ title, however, is currently titled Frozen: Our Adventure Notebook with a release date of November 1, 2016.
Later this year, Random House will also be launching a new series titled ‘Disney Princess: Beginnings.’ Following in the lines of the chapter books series such as ‘The Never Girls,’ ‘Anna and Elsa’ and ‘Merida,’ the new series will explore the previously un-examined childhood years of each of the Disney Princesses. The series launches in January 2017 with the following titles:
Belle’s Beginnings – Before Belle went to the enchanted castle and met the beast, she was a young girl, and this is her story. At age 7, Belle is happy living at home with her father. But at school she feels like an outsider. Then one day she discovers a run-down bookshop. Determined to bring the store back to life, Belle shows all her classmates how wonderful books and stories are. Children ages 6 to 9 who are independent readers will love this new Disney Princess chapter-book series featuring full-color illustrations!
Cinderella’s Beginnings – An all-new chapter-book series introducing each Disney Princess as a young girl! Before Cinderella met her fairy godmother or dropped her glass slipper, she was a young girl, and this is her story. In return, Ella shares her sewing materials with Val. On the big day, the girls both put on great shows. But who will win the grand prize? Finally, Random House will join Disney’s new multi-year ‘Dream Big, Princess’ campaign with an 80 page full-color official guide, available September 13, 2016. The publisher’s description is as follows: ‘Do you like to dream big? Do you enjoy going on adventures? Do you have a free spirit and the courage to break traditions?
