Attractions magazine has recently reported on its blog that the spankin’ brand new and highly ill-received Stitch’s Supersonic Celebration in the Magic Kingdom has posted its closing notice for June 27 with no intention to return as some have previously reported.
The song and dance show which features an interactive portion with Stitch a la Turtle Talk has been inducing groans, drawing few crowds and producing even fewer laughs since it debuted earlier this year. There are plenty of videos of the performances available on youtube for your viewing displeasure. It has also added fuel to those who feel that Stitch has been oversaturated within the parks (we respectfully disagree) and has become a virtual band-aid for Tomorrowland. Quality will always trump quantity.

Personally, I think more Stitch is always welcome. We were looking forward to this new show on our trip in September. We watched a YouTube vid of it a few days ago and our only complaint was that it was too much of the Emcee and dancers and not enough Stitch! I think that was it’s main problem. Stitch continues to draw crowds of kids and adults at Disney theme parks worldwide. But, his presence in this show was too little and not enough like the playful Stitch we have all come to know and love. A show truly featuring Stitch would be most welcome. And, since WDW has gone to the expense of mounting the “Stitch Live!” technology in the Magic Kingdom…I think a good rewrite of the show would be in order.
Thanks for such a great website.
