On October 28, 2014, Disney Editions will release Disney During World War II: How the Walt Disney Studio Contributed to Victory in the War by John Baxter, only the second book of its kind to have ever been published on the subject. The publisher’s description is as follows:
On October 7, 2014, Disney Editions will release Marc Davis: Walt Disney’s Renaissance Man, a 208 page hardcover volume that details the contributions of one of The Walt Disney Company’s most influential artists as written by some of the company’s most influential artists. The publisher’s description is as follows:
Walt Disney once said of Marc Davis, ‘Marc can do story, he can do character, he can animate, he can design shows for me. All I have to do is tell him what I want and it’s there! He’s my Renaissance man.’ As such, Davis touched nearly every aspect of The Walt Disney Company during his tenure. He began as an animator, whose supporting work on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Bambi inspired Walt to promote him to full animator.
Disney XD and Lucasfilm today introduced a new character from the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ series, Hera, the heart of the Ghost crew from Star Wars Rebels. The Twi’lek, voiced by Vanessa Marshall, is an ace pilot, able fighter and is revealed to fans in the behind-the-scenes video featuring creator interviews, character sketches, and animation previews, embedded below.
Hera is an especially gifted pilot. ‘I think she really makes flying the Ghost look easy,’ says Joel Aron, CG supervisor. And while she’s strong-willed, Hera also keeps the group together and can be warm and nurturing. ‘She knows how to talk to them to get the best out of themselves and to be part of that team,’ Aron says. ‘That to me is the commander of a ship.’
Marvel Studios has released the first teaser poster for its upcoming film, Guardians of the Galaxy, which comes to us courtesy of director James Gunn.
At the 111th Annual International Toy Fair in New York, Jazwares offered up a sneak peek at its expanded ‘Star Wars Spyware’ line featuring products inspired by the upcoming Disney XD series, ‘Star Wars Rebels.’
Among the items featured included a motion activated micro-listener device, a voice changer (droid or alien), decoder pen and spy light. Also being introduced was the innovative ‘Ezra’s Dart Listening Device Launcher’ which allows Rebels to launch a small dart-like projectile onto a flat surface and eavesdrop on Imperial conversations from a distance. Ezra will also have a multi-device spy tool added to his arsenal through the line.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has shared a new clip from one of the bonus features for the home video release of Frozen (available for (pre-order) titled ‘D’frosted: Disney’s Journey From Hans Christian Andersen to Frozen.‘ The clip features directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee alongside Disney Legend, Imagineer Alice Davis as they pore over some of the original illustrations created by her late husband and also-Disney Legend, Marc Davis.

Walt Disney Studios has provided us with a new high-res stills from Maleficent (May 30, 2014), which has been added to the beginning of our gallery embedded below. The new still features an iconic moment in the film with Elle Fanning as Aurora hovering her fingertip above the spindle of a spinning wheel.
Disney XD and Lucasfilm today introduced a new character from the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ series, Sabine. Sabine is a key member of the Ghost crew in Star Wars Rebels. As seen in the introduction video embedded below, featuring early design concepts, animation tests, and final art, Sabine is unlike any Star Wars character — especially in her love for blowing things up and tagging her work with graffiti.
