Studio Ghibli’s immortal classic, My Neighbor Totoro, from director Hayao Miyazaki will be getting a domestic release on Blu-ray by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment in honor of its 25th anniversary on May 21.
The news comes ahead of any official press release, but the movie has already appeared for pre-order on Amazon.com. From what we are able to ascertain, the bonus features are essentially the same as the Blu-ray edition released late last year internationally:

Audio will be available as both the dubbed English version as well as the original Japanese version.
Also released on May 21 is Studio Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle, also available for pre-order. We will provide more information as it becomes available to us.
ABC Family will celebrate spring with the world premiere of the original movie Lovestruck: The Musical (formerly known as Elixir), premiering on April 21 at 8:00 pm ET/PT. Lovestruck: The Musical also features a stellar creative team in producer Debra Martin Chase and Terry Rossio, writers Terry Rossio & Jaylynn Bailey, choreographer Michael Rooney and director Sanaa Hamri.
Lovestruck: The Musical tells the story of Harper (Jane Seymour), one of the best dancers to hit Broadway. But an injury caused her to leave the spotlight, become a choreographer, and raise her daughter, Mirabella (Sara Paxton). When Mirabella, the star of Harper’s next big production, decides to quit the show to get married, her mother is determined to put a stop to the wedding and show Mirabella that she cannot give up her career for love, especially to marry playboy Marco (Alexander DiPersia). After the long flight to the Italian wedding site, Harper takes a swig from a strange bottle that is supposed to dull the pain of an old dance injury. Instead, the elixir magically turns Harper 30 years younger.
Harper’s younger appearance (Chelsea Kane plays Young Harper) allows her to secretly infiltrate the wedding – only to confront a huge obstacle in Mirabella’s father, Ryan (Tom Wopat), who can recognize his ex-wife in any form. After he too experiences the reverse-aging effects of the elixir (Drew Seeley plays Young Ryan), Ryan teams with Harper to reverse the damage she’s done to Mirabella and Marco’s relationship, hopefully in time to save the wedding.
A digital only soundtrack will be available featuring the cast covering pop hits, including Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance,’ Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin,’ Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ and Usher’s ‘DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,’ among others, as well as original songs. The soundtrack will be available on iTunes in advance of the movie’s premiere.

If you’ve seen at least three advertisements on children’s television lately, you’ve no doubt seen the one for CuddleUppets by Jay@Play. For the uninitiated, CuddleUppets are precisely what the earworm of the jingle says — blankets with puppets. Children can wrap themselves up with the cuddly blanket portion of the CuddleUppets while manipulating the puppet portion with one hand. For your convenience, we’ve embedded the commercial below — you’re welcome!
Beginning this spring, Jay@Play will be releasing an entirely new line of CuddleUppets featuring popular characters from across the Disney brand. Pictured above are Lambie and Hallie from the popular Disney Junior show ‘Doc McStuffins,’ along with Agent P from Disney XD’s ‘Phineas and Ferb.’ Additional characters waiting to hit the shelves include Sulley from Disney/Pixar’s Monsters Inc. and Monsters University, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. Also included in the bunch are Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk from Disney XD’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ and ‘Avengers Assemble,’ respectfully. While both the Marvel CuddleUppets allow children to manipulate the head, the mouths do not open as they do on other entries in the line.
The Disney CuddleUppets should be hitting the shelves in May and June at most major retailers such as Walmart, Target and Amazon. In addition to CuddleUppets, Jay@Play informs us that they will be producing Disney branded Shamzee pillow cases and that it’s likely the Disney characters will be incorporated into their entire line over time.
Note that packaging featured here is for positioning only (FPO), is not final and thus is subject to change.
From May 23 through July 7, 2013, The Walt Disney Family Museum, located in San Francisco’s Presidio, will present the special exhibition Maurice Sendak: 50 Years, 50 Works, 50 Reasons, featuring 50 works by the legendary author and illustrator, accompanied by 50 statements from celebrities, authors and noted personalities on the influence of Sendak’s work, all in celebration of the 50th anniversary of his universally revered book, Where the Wild Things Are.
The exhibition includes 50 original works from Where the Wild Things Are in a variety of mediums including sketches, illustrations and works on paper and showcases highlights from Sendak’s career and the diverse art forms in which he was renowned. Many of the works are from private collections and friends of the artist, offering a survey of his range as an artist and author. It is widely known that Sendak decided to become an illustrator at the young age of 12 after watching Disney’s film Fantasia (1940) and amassed a collection of Mickey Mouse and other Disney memorabilia throughout his lifetime.
From children’s literature, animated films, and textbooks to Broadway and opera, Sendak garnered worldwide acclaim for his genius and insight. Among the contributing commentators to the exhibition are playwright and screenwriter Tony Kushner, comedian Stephan Colbert, artist Robert Crumb, director Spike Jonze, President Barack Obama, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, actor/director Tom Hanks, and author Lemony Snicket.
Michael Riley, president, ABC Family, today announced the pick-up of two reality series, ‘Dancing Fools,’ which will be hosted by Melissa Peterman, star of the network’s hit comedy series, ‘Baby Daddy,’ and a docu-soap, ‘The Vineyard’ (working title). Production on both series will begin this spring.
‘Dancing Fools’ is a half-hour unscripted comedy hosted by Melissa Peterman, who also stars in ABC Family’s ‘Baby Daddy’ and in the upcoming ABC reality series, ‘Bet on Your Baby.’ Created and executive-produced by Phil Gurin (‘The Singing Bee,’ ‘Oh Sit’), the series is produced by the Gurin Company.
‘The Vineyard,’ a dramatic coming-of-age docu-soap, follows a handful of 20-somethings in Martha’s Vineyard for the summer. Tight quarters, new friends and new rivals, all living, working and playing together, make this picturesque playground ripe for mischief and romance. ‘The Vineyard’ is created and executive-produced by Dave Broome (‘Biggest Loser’) and Brian Smith (‘Masterchef’). The series is produced by 25/7 Productions.
Both reality series will premiere this summer with the recently announced one hour dramas ‘The Fosters,’ from executive producer Jennifer Lopez, and ‘Twisted,’ from executive producer Gavin Polone.

While potential film spoilers and the American International Toy Fair often go hand-in-hand, rare is the opportunity that we are able to actually photograph (with permission) new items that contain information not yet disclosed to the public. That said, yesterday we were able to do just that with some supporting merchandise for Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University, just ahead of the new trailer launch at 9 am ET and the full Toy Fair product launch with John Goodman and Billy Crystal which kicks off an hour later, at 10.
Despite their products being highly stylized, Funko brings us our first good look at a Randall Boggs in his younger form. It’s probably not a stretch to imagine that back at Monsters University, the bespectacled Randall — or Randy as he appeared to be called based on other merchandise — may have excelled in the scare program, but not so much in the quad, helping to shape the monster he becomes and his relationships with others in Monsters Inc. Funko will offer POP! vinyl figures and wacky wobblers of Randall, Mike Wazowski and Sulley; Mike and Sulley POP! plushies; and a Sulley 3D bookmark. The ‘top secret’ patches on the pictures Sulley figures is covering the Oozma Kappa fraternity logo, which is ironically odd since that fact has been public since November.
Monogram International, best known for its desk accessories, keychains, banks and other tchotchkes, offers up a slew of small items in support of Monsters University. Items include magnets, a lanyard/badge holder, eye poppers and fingerboards (which reveal Randy’s name as well as art for a character named Johnny).
Lastly for now (and in addition to other Monsters University toys we’ve already shared) is the Monsters University Imaginext collection from Fisher-Price. Building on the success of earlier franchises such as Toy Story and Cars, the Monsters University collection will launch with three sets. Of the three, we were able to preview two: the Child Detection Agency (CDA) vehicle with CDA agent figure and the Scare Floor playset with Mike Wazowski and Sulley figures. The figures appear as they do in Monsters Inc, but we are told this is still considered Monsters University as there is overlap between the two films. The third playset, which will preview later today at the media event, was called Monsters University [Fraternity?] Row, which will more directly reflect the content of the film.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter as we tweet live from the Monsters University media event as well as the American International Toy Fair to get a sneak peek of upcoming Disney products in real-time.
Animation Fascination has uploaded a new featurette/sneak peek at Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University, presumed to be included on the upcoming Monsters Inc. blu-ray release. Narrated by director Dan Scanlon, the featurette offers up quite a bit of concept art along with some of the story which involves how rivals Mike Wazowski and James ‘Sulley’ Sullivan were rejected from the prized scaring educational track by Dean Hardscrabble and how Mike concocts a plan to get into the program. To pull it off, they must join the Oozma Kappa fraternity which — although is made up of other scare program rejects — is just OK with us.
Scanlon also talks about character development, particularly with Mike and Sulley, and also provides a good look at some of the other supporting cast, including Art.
P.S. Hi, Squishy’s Mom!
A new trailer for the film, which debuts in theaters on June 21, 2013, is expected this Monday at around 12 pm ET, in conjunction with a Monsters University event being held by Disney at the American International Toy Fair in New York, in which Scanlon will be joined in person by Billy Crystal and John Goodman.
