The Walt Disney Family Museum, located in San Francisco’s Presidio, will be featuring the life’s work of artist and Disney Legend Mary Blair in a special exhibition titled ‘Magic. Color. Flair. The World of Mary Blair.‘ The exhibit, which is being curated by author and animation historian John Canemaker, is scheduled to run between March 13 and September 7, 2014.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that three of Disney’s films from the past year — both of Marvel Studios’ films, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World as well as Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Lone Ranger have been shortlisted for nomination consideration in the category of visual effects (VFX).
The other films being considered for nominations in the category are: Elysium, Gravity, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Oblivion, Pacific Rim, Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z. The shortlist was determined by the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee and members of the branch will have the opportunity to review a ten minute package from each film on January 9. Following the screening, the branch members will then select five of the films to be nominated.
Walt Disney Studios has released this new featurette for Saving Mr. Banks, focusing on the iconic music of Mary Poppins. It featuring Robert Sherman (half of the famous Sherman Brothers songwriting team responsible for the soundtrack as well as the film’s common threads) as well as the cast of Saving Mr. Banks as they discuss (and in some cases, reminisce) about the music and Walt Disney’s influence. Some additional footage as well as behind-the-scenes footage is also shared along the way.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment today announced that the newest entry in the popular Pixie Hollow series of films, The Pirate Fairy, will be available to own on Disney Blu-ray on April 1, 2014 (now available for pre-order.
The restoration and preservation of Walt and his brother Roy’s birthplace and home officially got underway today, on Walt Disney’s 112th birthday, at a press conference held at the historic site. Alderman Rey Colon was on hand along with homeowners Brent Young and Dina Benadon to kick off the year-long meticulous process of restoring the home to its 1901 state, when Walt was born. As part of the celebration, Mayor Emanuel proclaimed it Walt Disney Day in Chicago.

Just outside Chicago, built by his father Elias Disney in 1893, stands the house in which both Walt Disney and his older brother Roy were born and spent the early years of their lives. The decades since have brought significant wear and tear to the building and now the current property owners — Dina Benadon and Brent Young — are seeking to restore the home to its original glory to preserve its history and honor the legends from whence they came.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) Board of Directors today declared an annual cash dividend of $0.86 per share, up 15 percent, or $0.11 per share, from the previous year. The dividend is payable on January 16, 2014 to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 16, 2013. The January payment represents the 58th consecutive dividend payment to shareholders.
‘Disney had a great year creatively and financially in fiscal 2013, delivering record revenue, net income and earnings per share for the third year in a row,’ said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company. ‘We are pleased to be able to increase our shareholder dividend by 15 percent while continuing to invest for future growth.’
When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina (Hendricks) steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.
It’s probably not too hard to imagine that one of the most popular questions constantly being posed to Disney’s Avalanche Software, developer of ‘Disney Infinity’ is if and when Marvel or Star Wars will be introduced as playables. While it just wasn’t likely Lucasfilm properties would find their way into the first generation of the gaming platform simply because of the timing, the potential for tapping into Marvel was there — as it is, Marvel does actually have a known presence in the game in the form of the Incredible Hulk townsperson costume.
