Lone Ranger Statue Tour - Union Square, NYC

If New Yorkers felt a little safer today, it wasn’t without good reason. Atop one of the many buildings encasing popular Union Square stood Tonto with his kimosabe, the Lone Ranger. The life-size likenesses of The Lone Ranger stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer on horseback were part of a nationwide contest from Delta Vacations for a vacation to New Mexico. Moviegoers are encouraged to tweet or instagram photos of the statues along with the hashtag #LRRideForJustice for a bonus entry to the sweepstakes. Currently the statues are in New York City, visible from Union Square north, but they will be appearing at other locations nationally including Atlanta, GA, Orlando, FL, Miami, FL, St. Louis, MO, New Orleans, LA, Denver, CO, Salt Lake City, UT, San Francisco, CA, Burbank, CA and Hollywood, CA. A map is available at the official Ride for Justice micro-site as well as clues tweeted by the official @LoneRanger Twitter account.

CONFIRMED: ‘Muppets on Broadway’ in Disney Theatrical’s Sights

Nearly a year ago, we speculated that Disney Theatrical may have been working on creating a staged production involving the Muppets. Fast forward to last month (via today) and Variety is reporting that Disney Theatrical has in fact taken steps towards making it a reality.

According to the article, a fifteen minute segment was produced last month at the New Amsterdam Theatre, the future home of ‘Aladdin’ — another story we helped to break.

The article quotes Disney Theatrical head Thomas Schumacher as acknowledging the move, qualifying it was effectively a proof of concept to see if something more substantial would be feasible. It goes on to quote Schumacher as being ‘intrigued’ by the potential of bringing the Muppets to the stage.

In an effort to undermine Xehanort’s plot, Sora, Donald and Goofy search for seven guardians of light and the ‘Key to Return Hearts,’ while King Mickey and Riku search for previous Keyblade wielders.

Amazon.com has begun listing ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ for pre-order for the PlayStation 4 platform (the PS4 console is also available for pre-order).

D23 Expo: Disney Theatrical to Provide Star-Studded History of Disney Theater with ‘Broadway and Beyond’

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is thrilled to announce a special theatrical performance, Broadway and Beyond. Thomas Schumacher, president and producer, Disney Theatrical Productions will host a musical journey into Disney’s history on Broadway and beyond at the D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The performance features an all-star line-up, including Heidi Blickenstaff (‘The Little Mermaid’), Ashley Brown (‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’), Merle Dandridge (‘Tarzan’ and ‘Aida’), Josh Strickland (‘Tarzan®’) and Alton Fitzgerald White (‘The Lion King’), who sing beloved songs from the award-winning musicals they starred in as well as classic tunes from the Disney on Broadway catalogue.

The one night only performance will take place on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 6:30pm on Stage 23 inside the Anaheim Convention Center.

Disney Theatrical Productions, a division of The Walt Disney Studios, was formed in 1994 and operates under the direction of Thomas Schumacher. Worldwide, its eight Broadway titles have been seen by over 124 million theatergoers, grossed over $8.9 billion and have cumulatively run a staggering 195 years. With 15 productions currently produced or licensed, a Disney musical is being performed professionally somewhere on the planet virtually every hour of the day.

The company’s inaugural production, Beauty and the Beast, opened in 1994. It played a remarkable 13 year run on Broadway and has been produced in 28 countries worldwide. In November 1997, Disney opened The Lion King, which received six 1998 Tony® Awards including Best Musical and is now the highest grossing show in Broadway history. The show continues in its 16th smash year, having welcomed over 68 million visitors worldwide. The Lion King can also currently be seen on tour across North America, the U.K., and Japan, and in London’s West End, Hamburg, Tokyo, Madrid, and Sao Paulo.

Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida opened on Broadway next, winning four 2000 Tony® Awards, and spawning productions around the world. Mary Poppins, a co-production with Cameron Mackintosh, opened in London in 2004 and established itself as one of the biggest stage musical successes to emerge in recent years. The Tony Award®-winning Broadway production played more than six years at Disney’s New Amsterdam Theatre and can now be seen on tour across North America and in Mexico City.

Tarzan®, which opened on Broadway in 2006, is now an international hit with an award-winning production in its 6th year in Germany. In January 2008, The Little Mermaid opened on Broadway and was the #1-selling new musical of that year. Its success continues with three new productions around the world: Holland, Russia and Japan.

Two new critically acclaimed productions opened on Broadway in 2012, receiving seven Tony® Awards between them: Newsies, in its second year at the Nederlander Theatre, and Peter and the Starcatcher, now playing at New World Stages.

Other successful stage musical ventures have included King David in concert, the national tour of On The Record, several touring versions of Disney’s High School Musical, and Der Glöckner Von Notre Dame in Berlin.

Its new musical, Aladdin, will open in Toronto in fall 2013.

E3: ‘Disney’s Planes’ for Nintendo Consoles Screens

'Disney's Planes' for Nintendo SystemsFrom above the world of Cars, Disney’s Planes video games takes players on a high-flying, action-packed, fun-filled adventure with Dusty, a big-hearted, speed-loving crop duster who is voiced by actor and comedian Dane Cook. Players will take to the skies with Dusty and other characters, including Ishani, voiced by actress Priyanka Chopra; Echo, voiced by actor Anthony Edwards; and Bravo, voiced by actor Val Kilmer, as they embark on global missions, air races and grand adventures around the world. Available to own on August 6 and now available for pre-order on Nintendo gaming systems.

In Disney’s Planes video game, players travel through breathtaking environments and play as one of the 10 cast of characters on console and one of the six cast of characters on handheld in either single-player, on all platforms or race against one another in two-player drop-in and drop-out gameplay on console. Players will roll, turn and loop their way through mission-based objectives in exciting modes of play including a narrative-based Story mode and a score-based mini-game that challenges the player’s precision flying skills called Balloon Pop. The exploratory Free Flight mode and racing-based Air Rallies mode are exclusive to the consoles and the objective-achieving Challenge mode is only offered via the handheld platforms.

'Phineas and Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff'Majesco Entertainment has provided us with a new trailer and screens for its upcoming release, ‘Phineas and Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff,‘ available for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS consoles on August 13, 2013, now available for pre-order.

There’s a whole lot of stuff to do during the last week of summer vacation and Phineas and Ferb want to do it all! Join these charismatic brothers of invention as they create, travel and explore in their quest for artifacts to fill out the Museum of Cool. Perry the pet platypus, aka Agent P, has their backs when bumbling villain Dr. Doofenshmirtz unleashes his latest obscure ‘-inator’ device designed to take over the entire Tri-State area!

‘Phineas and Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff’ features include:

  • Play as Phineas, Ferb and Perry/Agent P as you interact with supporting characters from the show including Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Candace, Isabella, Buford and whiz kid Baljeet.
  • Experience two unique play mechanics:
    • Exploration Mode: Switch on-the-fly between ambitious innovator Phineas and silent, but stoic ‘Man of Action’ Ferb as you explore their backyard, a lost temple, underwater caverns and the surface of the moon!

‘Disney’s Win, Lose or Draw’ Announces Contest Search in Southern California

Disney Channel announces the ultimate contestant search throughout Southern California for kids ages 11-17 to compete in Disney Channel’s new game show “Disney’s Win, Lose or Draw,” beginning Saturday, June 15. Aspiring kid contestants in teams of two who have a flair for comedy, like to draw, and are great at solving clues, are invited to try out for an opportunity to compete alongside some of their favorite Disney stars for prizes.

“Disney’s Win, Lose or Draw,” the latest edition of the classic game show, will be powered by leading edge technology, motion control, interactive multi-touch screen displays and graphic technology with an interjection of comedic physical challenges. Each show will feature two teams each composed of two kid contestants and a Disney star, competing in a battle of drawing skills, creativity and wits. Engaging entertainer and TV personality Justin Willman (host of “Cupcake Wars”) is set to host.

Kids will be required to try out in teams of two and are encouraged to partner with a friend, sibling or cousin; both teammates must be present at the time of the audition and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. There is never any fee to try out for Disney Channel and there are no guarantees of being selected as a contestant for the show. Additional information is available at www.winloseordrawcasting.com.
