Starbucks Slated for May Opening at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

According to internal documents dating various refurbishments around the Walt Disney World, we can currently expect Walt Disney World’s first in-park Starbucks to open at the Magic Kingdom theme park on May 18, 2012.

The restaurant will be located at the Main Street Bakery which is scheduled for closure between January 6, 2013 and May 17, indicating it will emerge as a Starbucks-branded location on May 18, 2013. As with its west coast counterpart, the Main Street, USA location Starbucks will remain themed to its location with cast members donning costumes that lend themselves to the theme park’s land.

This will be the second of six announced in-park locations, one at each theme park between the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. The first opened earlier this year at Disney California Adventure as part of the new Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café in the Buena Vista Street area of the park. A location at Epcot’s Fountain View has also been announced, though it will close for its changeover at some point in March, re-opening in late summer.

Another recently announced upcoming closures at the Walt Disney World resort include: Liberty Belle (February 1 – 7), Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage (January 7 – 12), Disney Junior: Live on Stage (January 14 – February 13) and Kali River Rapids (January 6 – February 15).

Disney Completes Acquisition of Lucasfilm, Star Wars

Continuing its strategy of delivering exceptional creative content to audiences around the world, Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) announced today that Disney has completed its acquisition of Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Lucasfilm to the Disney family,” said Iger. “Star Wars is one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time and this transaction combines that world class content with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets, which we believe will generate growth as well as significant long-term value.”

Under the terms of the merger agreement, at closing Disney issued 37,076,679 shares and made a cash payment of $2,208,199,950. Based upon the closing price of Disney shares on December 21, 2012 at $50.00, the transaction has a total value of approximately $4.06 billion.

Lucasfilm’s assets include its massively popular Star Wars franchise, operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production, as well as a substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies. It operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC, LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound.

D23 Members Invited to ‘Disney Infinity’ Announcement in Hollywood

Disney D23, the official club for fans of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that it has secured a few coveted spots for the exclusive invite-only official reveal of Disney Interactive’s ‘Disney Infinity,’ to take place next month.

The event, which will take place at Disney’s historic El Capitan Theatre, will allow D23 members to be amongst the very first audience to actually experience ‘Disney Infinity,’ a game we have speculated will use popular characters from the world of Disney and Pixar in an Skylanders-type experience across multiple platforms in a way never before experienced.

In addition to the event, which features a presentation by John Lasseter, a lunch buffet will be offered, along with a special commemorative gift for those fortunate enough to attend.

The ‘Disney Infinity’ event takes place the day of January 15 in Hollywood. Tickets are free (plus a $5 service charge) and will be available beginning January 3, 2013 at 10 am PST. For more information and to reserve tickets as they become available, visit the official event page.

‘Monsters University’ Gear for Four-Armed Students Now Available

Just in time for the theatrical release of Monsters, Inc 3D featuring alumna from next year’s prequel, the Monsters University campus store is now stocking its popular 4-armed hoodie, just almost in time for the holiday season.

We first reported on the Monsters University merchandise some time before the viral site went — well, viral, but it’s seemed to go under the radar that despite a couple of items that appeared to be jokes, the site’s Campus Store is a fully-functioning shop filled with (mostly) real products and serviced by Disney Store.

At least we thought there were joke items. Apparently some of the items, which allow to choose a configuration for number of arms and collars (heads) have actually gone into production and one of them is now being offered. Options are still limited in terms of design/color/arm/head configuration, but it’s still a novelty gift sure to please any fan of the Monsters Inc. franchise (or the bizarre).

And remember: KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL.

Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios have shared with us a new hi-res stills from Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3, in theaters on May 3, 2013. The new image, which has been added to the beginning of our gallery below, features a very battered (both physically and emotionally) Tony Stark in his Iron Man suit.

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Jonathan Groff Joins ‘Frozen’ to Voice Kristoff

Frozen © Disney Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) has given voice to its extreme mountain man from the comedy-adventure Frozen. Tony Award® nominee Jonathan Groff (Broadway’s ‘Spring Awakening,’ TV’s ‘Glee’) is on board to help bring Kristoff to life in the epic journey slated for the big screen November 27, 2013.

Groff appears in the independent feature C.O.G., which is part of 2013 Sundance Film Festival. The Pennsylvania native made his big-screen debut in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock and went on to appear in the independent drama Twelve-Thirty and The Conspirator. His TV credits include Fox’s ‘Glee,’ the Starz series ‘Boss’ and CBS’ ‘The Good Wife.’ On stage, in addition to the Tony Award®-winning musical ‘Spring Awakening,’ Groff appeared in the Public Theater’s revival of ‘Hair’ and off-Broadway plays ‘Prayer for My Enemy’ and ‘The Submission,’ among others. He made his West End debut in Ira Levin’s ‘Deathtrap,’ and appeared in the 2010 Tony Award®-winning ‘Red’ by John Logan at the Mark Taper Forum this year.

From the studio behind 2010’s Tangled and this year’s Wreck-It Ralph, Walt Disney Animation Studios presents Frozen, the most daring comedy-adventure ever to hit the big screen. When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Wicked Witch of the West Poster (Hi-Res)

Walt Disney Studios has just released this striking character featuring the Wicked Witch of the West as envisioned in their upcoming release, Oz the Great and Powerful.

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth, with a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire (credit not final). Grant Curtis, Palak Patel, Philip Steuer and Josh Donen are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.
