We have done our fair share of trademark watching when it comes to The Walt Disney Company, and that includes disputes that arise over them as well, whichever side of the issue Disney happens to be on. Because trademark ownership requires companies take action when they feel their trademarks are potentially infringed upon, we tend to chalk most of them up to business as usual and ignore them. Sometimes we don’t. The vast majority of disputes are also usually over words. Don’t — for example — attempt to trademark anything with the word Monster in it unless you enjoy raging legal battles.
Based on a true story, Disney’s Million Dollar Arm follows JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm), a once-successful sports agent who now finds himself edged out by bigger, slicker competitors. He and his partner Aash (Aasif Mandvi) will have to close their business down for good if JB doesn’t come up with something fast. Late one night, while watching cricket being played in India on TV, JB comes up with an idea so radical it just might work. Why not go to there and find the next baseball pitching sensation? Setting off for Mumbai with nothing but a gifted but cantankerous scout (Alan Arkin) in tow, JB stages a televised, nationwide competition called “Million Dollar Arm” where 40,000 hopefuls compete before two 18-year-old finalists, Rinku and Dinesh (Suraj Sharma, Madhur Mittal), emerge as winners. JB brings them back to the United States to train with legendary pitching coach Tom House (Bill Paxton). The goal: get the boys signed to a major league team.

As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Comedian TJ Miller (who will next be seen in HBO’s new series ‘Silicon Valley’ from Mike Judge) recently confirmed via Twitter that he will be featured in Disney’s Big Hero 6 as Fred /aka/ Fredzilla, whose powers include turning himself into a Godzilla-like monster and projecting a dinosaur avatar ‘that can only be seen from certain perspectives.’ In the comics, Fred also has claimed to spent part of his childhood living at a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base in Japan.

The Walt Disney Family Museum has announced it will present the exhibition ‘Leading Ladies and Femmes Fatales: The Art of Marc Davis’ from April 30 through November 30, 2014. On view in the museum’s Theater Gallery, the exhibition — co-curated by the museum’s director of collections and exhibitions, Michael Labrie, and animator Andreas Deja — spotlights some 70 original pencil animation drawings, conceptual artwork, paintings, cels, and photographs from animator and Imagineer Marc Davis (b. 1913). Davis, who was named a Disney Legend in 1989, was assigned and executed some of the most difficult animation for Walt Disney’s leading ladies and femmes fatales from classics such as Peter Pan (1953), Sleeping Beauty (1956), and One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961). It was Davis’ mastery of the human form and authority on anatomy and movement that brought these iconic female characters to life and made them believable.
