Courtesy of Walt Disney Studios New Zealand, we appear to have a new teaser trailer for Disney’s Planes, arriving in theaters on August 9, 2013 (along with a special presentation at the Disney D23 Expo the same day) which introduces Dusty’s competitors from around the world. You can see it embedded below.
Inspired by the world of Cars, Disney’s Planes is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing — and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
Disney’s Planes features the vocal talents of Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Cedric the Entertainer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Carlos Alazraqui, Priyanka Chopra, Gabriel Iglesias, Roger Craig Smith, Colin Cowherd, Sinbad, Oliver Kalkofe, Brent Musburger, Anthony Edwards and Val Kilmer. It will be released in theaters on August 9, 2013. via Bleeding Cool

The Oriental Land Company, owner and operator of the Tokyo Disney Resort, today announced big plans for the popular ‘world famous’ Jungle Cruise attraction located in the Adventureland section of its Tokyo Disneyland theme park.
At an investment cost of 1.6 billion Yen (just over US $16 million), the reimagining of the attraction will ‘offer Guests an adventure that is even more thrilling than before’ and promises ‘a startling encounter with one of the animal spirit guardians in the ruins of a lost jungle temple.’
While expected changes include new lighting effects as well as unspecified ‘special show effects,’ the big addition will be an original musical soundtrack that will play throughout the attraction, a first for the Jungle Cruise in any of the Disney theme parks. In addition, the attraction will offer a special ‘night cruise’ version of the attraction after the sun goes down.
Tokyo’s Jungle Cruise will close on January 6, 2014 and is expected to open in fall of 2014.
Via Yahoo, Walt Disney Animation Studios has released character poses for several of the known characters from its upcoming feature, Frozen, along with some new fresh faces. Character descriptions as well as the photo gallery can be seen below.
Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) Anna is more daring than graceful and, at times, can act before she thinks. But she’s also the most optimistic and caring person you’ll ever meet. She longs to reconnect with her sister, Elsa, as they were close during their childhood. When Elsa accidentally unleashes a magical secret that locks the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter, Anna embarks on a dangerous adventure to make things right. Armed with only her fearlessness, a never-give-up attitude and her faith in others, Anna is determined to save both her kingdom and her family.
Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel) From the outside, Elsa looks poised, regal and reserved, but in reality, she lives in fear as she wrestles with a mighty secret—she was born with the power to create ice and snow. It’s a beautiful ability, but also extremely dangerous. Haunted by the moment her magic nearly killed her younger sister Anna, Elsa has isolated herself, spending every waking minute trying to suppress her growing powers. Her mounting emotions trigger the magic, accidentally setting off an eternal winter that she can’t stop. She fears she’s becoming a monster and that no one, not even her sister, can help her.
Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) Kristoff is a true outdoorsman. He lives high up in the mountains where he harvests ice and sells it to the kingdom of Arendelle. Rough around the edges, Kristoff’s the strong, no-nonsense type, who follows his own set of rules. He may seem like a loner, but he always has his best friend by his side—a loyal and extremely mangy reindeer named Sven.
Hans (voice of Santino Fontana) Hans is a handsome royal from a neighboring kingdom who comes to Arendelle for Elsa’s coronation. With 12 older brothers, Hans grew up feeling practically invisible—and Anna can relate. Hans is smart, observant and chivalrous. Unlike Elsa, Hans promises he’ll never shut Anna out; he just might be the connection she’s been waiting for all these years.
Sven A reindeer with the heart of a Labrador, Sven is Kristoff’s loyal friend, sleigh-puller and conscience. He makes sure his mountain-man companion is the stand-up guy Sven knows and loves, and does so without saying a word. A few emphatic snorts usually get his point across. Life would be perfect if only Kristoff would lose that ridiculous reindeer voice he likes to use when speaking for Sven (as if reindeers really talk that way).
Olaf (voice of Josh Gad) He’s Olaf and he likes warm hugs. Sprung from Elsa’s magical powers, Olaf is by far the friendliest snowman to walk the mountains above Arendelle. His innocence, outgoing personality and uncanny ability to disassemble himself at good and not-so-good times lead to some awkward, albeit laughable moments. He may also have the world’s most impossible dream, but what he doesn’t know won’t melt him—or will it?
Duke of Weselton (voice of Alan Tudyk) What the Duke of Weselton lacks in stature, he makes up for in arrogance and showboating. He’s determined to get close to the new queen—that is, until Elsa’s magical secret is revealed. Then he’s the first to call her a monster and try to turn her own kingdom against her—anything that might help him exploit Arendelle’s tradable goods.
Marshmallow Marshmallow is an enormous icy snowman born from Elsa’s powers. He serves as a brute bodyguard charged with keeping intruders away from her ice palace. The menacing white beast doesn’t say much, but he packs a powerful punch.
Oaken (voiced by Chris Williams) Oaken runs Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna. But since Elsa’s massive winter storm hits in mid-July, he finds himself with a surplus of summer supplies. Deal-seekers beware: though he’s good-natured and helpful, if you cross him, Oaken won’t hesitate to throw you out of his humble establishment.
Walt Disney Studios has just released its first official trailer for Saving Mr. Banks, the account of Walt Disney’s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers’ popular novel, Mary Poppins, and the testy partnership the upbeat filmmaker develops with the uptight author during the project’s pre-production in 1961. You can watch it embedded below.
Two-time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump) will essay the role of the legendary Disney (the first time the entrepreneur has ever been depicted in a dramatic film) alongside fellow double Oscar®-winner Emma Thompson (Howard’s End, Sense and Sensibility) in the role of the prickly novelist. Before actually signing away the book’s rights, Travers’ demands for contractual script and character control circumvent not only Disney’s vision for the film adaptation, but also those of the creative team of screenwriter Don DaGradi and sibling composers Richard and Robert Sherman, whose original score and song (Chim-Chim-Cher-ee) would go on to win Oscars® at the 1965 ceremonies (the film won five awards of its thirteen nominations).
When Travers travels from London to Hollywood in 1961 to finally discuss Disney’s desire to bring her beloved character to the motion picture screen (a quest he began in the 1940s as a promise to his two daughters), Disney meets a prim, uncompromising sexagenarian not only suspect of the impresario’s concept for the film, but a woman struggling with her own past. During her stay in California, Travers’ reflects back on her childhood in 1906 Australia, a trying time for her family which not only molded her aspirations to write, but one that also inspired the characters in her 1934 book.
None more so than the one person whom she loved and admired more than any other—her caring father, Travers Goff, a tormented banker who, before his untimely death that same year, instills the youngster with both affection and enlightenment (and would be the muse for the story’s patriarch, Mr. Banks, the sole character that the famous nanny comes to aide). While reluctant to grant Disney the film rights, Travers comes to realize that the acclaimed Hollywood storyteller has his own motives for wanting to make the film—which, like the author, hints at the relationship he shared with his own father in the early 20th Century Midwest.
Colin Farrell (Minority Report, Total Recall) co-stars as Travers’ doting dad, Goff, along with British actress Ruth Wilson (the forthcoming films The Lone Ranger, Anna Karenina) as his long-suffering wife, Margaret; Oscar® and Emmy® nominee Rachel Griffiths (‘Six Feet Under,’ Hilary and Jackie, The Rookie) as Margaret’s sister, Aunt Ellie (who inspired the title character of Travers’ novel); and a screen newcomer—11-year-old Aussie native Annie Buckley as the young, blossoming writer, nicknamed ‘Ginty’ in the flashback sequences.
The cast also includes Emmy® winner Bradley Whitford (‘The West Wing,’ The Cabin in the Woods) as screenwriter Don DaGradi; Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom) and B.J. Novak (NBC’s ‘The Office,’ Inglourious Basterds) as the songwriting Sherman Brothers (Richard and Robert, respectively); Oscar® nominee and Emmy winner Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Cinderella Man, HBO’s ‘John Adams’) as Ralph, the kindly limousine driver who escorts Travers during her two-week stay in Hollywood; and multi-Emmy winner Kathy Baker (‘Picket Fences,’ Edward Scissorhands) as Tommie, one of Disney’s trusted studio associates.
Saving Mr. Banks will be directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, The Rookie) based on a screenplay by Kelly Marcel (creator of FOX-TV’s ‘Terra Nova’), from a story by Sue Smith (Brides of Christ, Bastard Boys) and Kelly Marcel. The film is being produced by Alison Owen of Ruby Films (the Oscar®-nominated Elizabeth, HBO’s Emmy®-winning Temple Grandin), Ian Collie of Essential Media (the Aussie TV documentary The Shadow of Mary Poppins, DirecTV’s ‘Rake’) and longtime Hancock collaborator Philip Steuer (The Rookie, The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy). The film’s executive producers are Ruby Films’ Paul Trijbits (Lay the Favorite, Jane Eyre), Hopscotch Features’ Andrew Mason (The Matrix trilogy, Dark City) and Troy Lum (Mao’s Last Dancer, I, Frankenstein) and BBC Films’ Christine Langan (Oscar® nominee for The Queen, We Need to Talk About Kevin).
Hancock’s filmmaking team includes a trio of artists with whom he worked on his 2009 Best Picture Oscar® nominee, The Blind Side—two-time Oscar® nominated production designer Michael Corenblith (How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Apollo 13), Emmy®-winning costume designer Daniel Orlandi (HBO’s Game Change, Frost/Nixon) and film editor Mark Livolsi, A.C.E. (Wedding Crashers, The Devil Wears Prada). Hancock also reunites with Academy Award®-nominated cinematographer John Schwartzman (Seabiscuit, Pearl Harbor), with whom he first worked on his inspiring 2002 sports drama, The Rookie.
Saving Mr. Banks will be released in theaters domestically on December 20, 2013 with a limited release beginning December 13.

Capcom has advised us that ‘DuckTales” Remastered’ will start releasing domestically on August 13, 2013. On that date, it will be available as a digital download on Sony PlayStation’s PSN, Nintendo’s eShop for Wii U and for PC; the Microsoft Xbox 360 XBLA edition will be available for download on September 11. Additionally, on August 20, a boxed version (with download code and exclusive DuckTales Disney collector’s pin) will be offered on PlayStation 3 at retailers across the country. DuckTales: Remastered is priced at $14.99 for the digital version and $19.99 for the retail version on PS3.
To help celebrate this quack-tastic news, the team has released the very first ‘Duckumentary’ video, which goes behind the scenes with the talented developers at WayForward. The series of videos (beginning today and released every other week until the game’s launch) chronicles the creative process of bringing back Scrooge McDuck and one of the most cherished 8-bit titles of all time to current generation gaming platforms. Additional ‘Travel Tip’ videos from Launchpad McQuack will begin releasing next week and up until ‘launch,’ so be on the lookout for those as well!
UPDATE: Capcom has graciously provided us with artwork for the exclusive ‘DuckTales: Remastered’ pin that wil come with the boxed collector’s edition.
There’s no telling how the two are connected just yet, but for those who just can’t wait any longer, we’d like to introduce you to Wallace, the newest person of intrigue in Disney’s alternate reality game (ARG), ‘The Optimist.’
We’ve already meat Amelia (@storyorbit) who is on a quest via Twitter and her blog at storyorbit.com to learn more about her grandfather Carlos and the stories he would regale her with about his experiences with Walt Disney and the 1964-65 World’s Fair in New York City and his short story, ‘Orbit’s Story’ which was possibly optioned for a film and theme park rights.
Now there is Wallace (@dcartography), the unofficial cartographer of Disneyland. Wallace describes his art as depicting ‘Disneylands past, Disneylands future, and Disneylands that never were or might have been.’ And to be blunt, his work is downright beautiful (you can see his gallery here). As luck would have it, prints of his art are all sold out, but you can still view his images which seem to be limited to portraits of attractions Disney developed for the 1964 World’s Fair in addition to a portrait of Walt with other Imagineers going over plans for the attractions at his table 31 at the Tam O’Shanter.
As beautiful as his art is (and I would seriously love the opportunity to purchase a print or two), it’s the Carousel of Progress (or Progressland as it would have been known at the fair) that’s the most intriguing. At the top of the poster reads an intriguing little caption: ‘Three Bells Start Our Revolution.’ A Google search turned up completely empty on the phrase so I’m beginning to think there’s just a bit more to it. For example, if you take the first letter of each word, you almost have ORBIT. Perhaps it’s an anagram, a fancy clue, or just nothing at all — just one more element in the intriguing game leading up the Disney D23 Expo.
And speaking of the D23 Expo, Wallace says he will be there and invites everyone to say hello. For those not going or wanting to get an extra moment of Wallace’s time to see what he can share, he’ll be holding a live chat on August 6 at 9:30 pm ET/6:30 pm PT which can be accessed by link he will share via Twitter.
As far as progress on the game goes, speculation continues to be rampant, although there’s a lot of focus on many anachronisms being spotted. That said, one popular theory is that the game is leading up to promotion for Disney’s Tomorrowland film which is said to involve a strange event at the 1964 World’s Fair introducing a parallel universe and perhaps alternate timelines, which may lead to these apparent anachronisms. Given that The Optimist is a joint venture between Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Studios, it may very well be that Disney is taking the term ‘alternate reality’ a bit more literal than originally thought.
