Disney Store ‘Magical Friday’ 2012 Event Kicks Off November 19; Many Stores to Open Midnight on Friday

Disney Store has announced that for the first time ever, it will kick off its ‘Magical Friday’ (Black Friday) celebration online, starting November 19, 2012, with new deals every day leading up to Black Friday on November 23. Additional deals will launch in stores and online on November 23 and throughout Thanksgiving weekend and on Cyber Monday, allowing shoppers to find great discounts on the season’s hottest Disney toys and gifts for all ages.

The extended shopping opportunity also offers an excellent chance to take advantage of the recently revamped DisneyStore.com and its brand new ‘Magical Message Video’ option. Guests can now record and customize a special ‘Disney Magical Message’ video to send along with their DisneyStore.com gift purchases for friends and family. Gift recipients will receive an email notifying them of a special delivery, then once the gift arrives at their door, a card will provide them a site URL and a personal ID where they can view their personalized video, making gift giving even more special.

Disney Store also extends the experience to Twitter, where its Fairy Godmother Twitter concierge can make finding the perfect gift even easier. The Fairy Godmother personal shopping services will be available via Twitter to help guests find the perfect gift on ‘Magical Friday.’ Chat live with Disney Store’s guest services team on Twitter with hash tag #FairyGodmother. Updates and deals will be posted on Disney Store’s Facebook as well. Guests can shop with at DisneyStore.com anytime, anywhere with from their laptops/desktops, tablets or mobile phones.

On Black Friday, more than 150 Disney Store locations will open at midnight or have extended hours (detailed list to follow). With more stores opening at midnight than ever before, Disney Store will cater to night owls and early birds looking to get the best deals.

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Triptych Panel Features Munchkins, Flying Monkeys and More

Featuring flying monkeys, the China Girl (as portrayed by Joey King), a munchkin and other fantastical creatures, Walt Disney studios have provided us with the right-side panel of a triptych for Oz the Great and Powerful, with a promise that the final panel will be released next week.

Oz The Great and Powerful imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot — fame and fortune are his for the taking — that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry — Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

‘Brave’ ‘Legend of Mor’du’ Hi-Res Stills, Bonus Feature Sneak Peeks

Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios have provided us with two hi-res images from their brand new short, The Legend of Mor’du as featured on the blu-ray edition of Pixar’s Brave, available to own on November 13, 2012. The rousing new bonus short film will give fans the chance to delve deeper into the legend behind the demon bear Mordu, as told by the eccentric witch who transformed him.

We also have a sneak peek at one of the other bonus features, ‘Merida & Elinor,’ which focuses on all aspects of the mother-daughter pair. Here, Kelly Macdonald talks about voicing Merida and channeling her inner-teen.

Lastly, while we have several newly released clips, the one we’d like to share is the clever scene, titled ‘two sides to a conversation’ which weaves the one-sided conversations between Elinor and King Fergus and Merida and Angus.

‘The Fosters’ Begins Production for ABC Family

ABC Family begins production this week on the drama series pilot “The Fosters,” starring Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Jake T. Austin, Hayden Byerly, David Lambert, newcomer Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci and Cierra Ramirez.

“The Fosters,” a one-hour drama about a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms, begins shooting in Los Angeles this week. Stef Foster (Teri Polo) is a divorcee now in a happy relationship with Lena (Sherri Saum), her soulmate and very significant other. Stef, a policewoman, is the biological mother of Brandon (David Lambert), who she had with her ex-husband Mike (Danny Nucci) who is also a cop. Stef and Lena are the adoptive parents of Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin) out of the foster system. Lena, the vice-principal at the charter school her children attend, is the more soft-hearted one and ends up taking in Callie (Maia Mitchell), a defiant teen fresh out of juvie. Stef is initially upset, because they had agreed not to foster any more kids until Brandon was out of the house and feels that Callie is bound to disrupt their stable, happy home. But they all soon realize that Callie is a broken girl who needs mending — and they may have no choice but to take her in.

From executive producer Jennifer Lopez, and created by Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige, who will also serve as writers and executive producers. Simon Fields and Greg Gugliotta will also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by Nuyorican Productions, Inc., and Prodco, Inc.

Sneak Peek: ‘Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess’

To all the subjects of the Tri-Kingdom area, let it be it known that Disney Junior’s ‘Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess’ will make its television debut on November 18 at 7:00 pm and now, thanks to the Disney Channel, we have a couple of clips from the special to share with you.

In the first clip, Sofia (voiced by Ariel Winter) is introduced to her new bedroom in the castle by the royal steward, Baileywick (voiced by Tim Gunn). Used to sharing a small room with her mother, Sofia can’t believe her eyes at her new luck:

In this next clip, Clover (voiced by Wayne Brady) explains to Sofia — in song — why it is that small, furry woodland creatures are so eager to help out the princesses with their chores throughout the years.

Created for kids age 2-7 and their parents/caregivers, and starring the voices of Ariel Winter, Sara Ramirez, Wayne Brady and Tim Gunn, Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king of Enchancia and she becomes a princess. Sofia soon discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that difficult, but displaying honesty, loyalty, courage, independence, compassion and grace is what makes one truly royal.

D23 Offers Muppets Meet & Greet Opportunity at Disney Store Times Square

Disney D23, the fan club of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that on Tuesday, November 27, it will be allowing a limited number of its members and their guests a rare opportunity to meet and greet in person with Kermit the Frog and Pepe the King Prawn at the Disney Store Times Square in New York City. The meet & greet opportunity will follow an exclusive conversation with the Muppets.

In addition to the event, D23 members will also have the opportunity to shop at the store and receive a special 15% discount. Cast members will also be armed with Muppet-related prizes for answering trivia questions.

‘Epic Mickey 2′ Demo Now Available for PlayStation, Xbox

Disney Interactive today announced that a demo of the highly-anticipated “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” video game is now available for download on the PlayStation®Network and Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in North America. In the video game demo, players will adventure as Mickey Mouse and explore the extensive tutorial and early levels of the game including the magical laboratory of the sorcerer, Yen Sid. In addition, players will meet Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s first cartoon star, and experience a few of the fun co-op abilities that will be available in the full game at launch. The adventure will culminate with an exciting sizzle reel that showcases some of the exciting and action-packed elements of the game. “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” will be available for all major console systems in North American retail stores on November 18th.

The “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” video game returns Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Wasteland, an alternate world filled with more than 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions. But for the first time, Mickey and Oswald will join forces as true partners – Mickey with the magical paint brush that allows him to wield paint and thinner, and Oswald with a powerful remote control that allows him to command electricity. This new co-op play further enhances the idea that “PlayStyle Matters” – a unique approach to gameplay pioneered by Warren Spector where players tackle challenges the way they want to in order to explore a variety of possibilities and storylines, but always with consequences for their chosen actions.

“Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” for the Wii™ system from Nintendo is being developed by Junction Point, while the Xbox 360, and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system versions of the game are being developed by Blitz Games Studios, and Nintendo’s Wii U version is being developed by Heavy Iron. Supporting the latest technology, the game will also feature full support for the PlayStation®Move motion controller. “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion” for the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system is under development by critically-acclaimed developer DreamRift, in collaboration with Junction Point. The games are rated “E” for Everyone by the ESRB.
