Disney Movie Release Schedule Update; ‘Ant-Man’ in 2015; ‘Phineas and Ferb’ in 2014

Walt Disney Studios has provided us with an updated schedule for its upcoming slate of films from Walt Disney Studios, Marvel Studios and Pixar Animation Studios.

The combination live-action/animated feature film for Phineas and Ferb has now been pushed back to at least 2014 with no set release date (previously July 28, 2013).
Saving Mr. Banks, the story about the making of Mary Poppins and starring Tom Hanks, has been dated for December 20, 2013.
The recently announced Bears from Disneynature will be released on April 18, 2014
Ant-Man is scheduled for November 6, 2015
DISNEY ANIMATION UNTITLED is now dated for November 7, 2014
PIXAR ANIMATION UNTITLED is now dated for November 25, 2015

In addition, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World are both confirmed for a 3D release

WDW Refurb Update: Mad Tea Party, Blizzard Beach Extension, Other Date Changes

We received a new update from Walt Disney World regarding upcoming refurbishments and have new additions as well as several date revisions. While we recommend verifying all of the changes by visiting our ReSearch page, here are some of the highlights:

Mad Tea Party at Magic Kingdom is scheduled to close on January 7, 2013 and re-open on February 19.
Splash Mountain dates revised to close on January 2 and re-open on March 20, 2013.
The Boneyard at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will have another 2-day closure, closing October 24, 2012 and re-opening on October 26.
Blizzard Beach refurbishment has been extended until May 17, 2013. It will also start on January 6, 2013, meaning Typhoon Lagoon will now re-open that same day, which is a little earlier than originally slated.

Denise Richards to Star in ‘Socio’ on ABC Family

ABC Family has cast Denise Richards (“Madea’s Witness Protection,” “Two and a Half Men”) to star in drama series pilot “Socio,” as Karen Ryder. Also cast is Kimberly Quinn (“Terriers,” “House”) as Tess. They join the previously announced Avan Jogia as Danny, Maddie Hasson as Jo and Kylie Bunbury as Lacey in the project. The pilot is currently in preproduction.

“Socio” follows Danny Ryder (Jogia), who has returned to town after serving five years in custody for murdering his aunt when he was 11. Admitting his guilt, but stubbornly refusing to discuss his motive, Danny returns to a hostile reception and a media firestorm. Ostracized by his peers, Danny reconnects with his former best friends Jo (Hasson) and Lacey (Bunbury), who are still struggling to put the past behind them. But when another student is murdered, suspicion falls on Danny and the question remains: Is Danny a serial slayer, a “socio,” or is he a victim with a shocking secret?

Richards will portray Karen Ryder, Danny’s perfectly coiffed mother who once ruled the town’s social scene but who now struggles to put on a brave face with her son returning home under a cloud of scandal and shame. Quinn portrays Jo’s mother, Tess, who tries to give Danny the benefit of the doubt and clashes with her husband over his harsh attitude towards the teen.

Gavin Polone is the executive producer of the pilot, which was written by Adam Milch (“Greek”).

‘Thor: The Dark World’ Official Synopsis Released

Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios have provided us with the official synopsis for Thor: The Dark World which debuts in theaters on November 8, 2013:

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Walt Disney Company Establishes New Paper Sourcing and Usage Policy

Disney today announced a new Paper Sourcing and Use Policy, establishing guidelines for paper used in Disney’s day-to-day business operations as well as its consumer products and packaging. The policy — effective immediately — continues Disney’s commitment to responsible forest practices and conservation, and will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will focus on paper sourced directly by Disney or on behalf of Disney for use in Disney-branded products and packaging, and the second will address paper sourced by the Company’s independent licensees.

The policy aims to:

Minimize the consumption of paper
Eliminate paper products containing irresponsibly harvested fiber, such as fiber from High Conservation Value Areas
Maximize recycled content and fiber sourced from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forestry operations

Disney will work with non-governmental organizations to identify and prioritize regions with poor forest management and high rates of deforestation. The Company will report its implementation progress on an annual basis.

‘The paper policy is an example of how Disney conducts business in an environmentally and socially responsible way, and demonstrates the Company’s commitment to creating a lasting, positive impact on ecosystems and communities worldwide,’ said Dr. Beth Stevens, senior vice president, Disney Corporate Citizenship, Environment and Conservation.

Disney sought input from stakeholders throughout the supply chain and from the environmental community in the formulation of its paper policy. Disney will continue to solicit ongoing feedback as the policy is implemented.

‘We commend Disney for adding its significant voice to the growing chorus of companies demonstrating that there’s no need to sacrifice endangered forests or animals for the paper we use every day. This policy will have a particularly important impact in Indonesia, the primary place where rainforests are still being cut down for pulp and paper,’ said Rebecca Tarbotton, executive director of Rainforest Action Network, which worked with Disney on the policy.

The new policy continues Disney’s legacy of supporting forest and nature conservation. Over the last two decades, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has invested in conservation programs in 112 countries, including more than 70 projects in Indonesia to protect the Sumatran rainforest and work with villages to effectively manage critical forest habitats. Since 2009, Disney has also invested more than $27 million in forest carbon projects in the United States, Peru, Brazil, Democratic Republic of Congo, and China.

‘The world’s forests are facing multiple pressures. Disney’s actions to better understand its paper usage and supply chain send a positive signal that the company recognizes the seriousness of this issue,’ said Ruth Nogueron, associate, World Resources Institute. ‘This is a welcome step that reflects Disney’s commitment to support responsible forest management.’

WDW Refurb Update: Splash Mountain Closure in 2013

It should come as no surprise, but now the official Walt Disney World Resort website has been updated to advise that Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland will be closing for its nearly-annual slow season refurbishment beginning on ~~February 3, 2013~~ January 4, 2013 and re-opening on March 21.

In other news, while the official site still shows a tentative re-opening date for Test Track at Epcot, the Disney Parks blog has reported that it will re-open on December 6, 2012, the same day that New Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom will have its grand opening.

UPDATE #2: 10/12/12 The official website has been updated to now show a closure date of January 4. Please be advised that the hub (for cast members) reflects slightly different dates.

UPDATE #3: 10/15/12 We have been given another set of dates from another source of January 2 and re-opening March 20, 2013.
