Tour and Photo Gallery of Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Kidani Village

Swahili for necklace, Kidani promises to be the jewel of the Walt Disney World resorts. From the moment you walk up to the resort, you are immediately greeted with a sense of what the resort is about: a beautiful style with such intricacies that it could be said that even the details have details.

For those who don’t know already, Kidani Village is considered half of Animal Kingdom Lodge. The original portion of the resort is now known as Jambo House. While the common areas of Kidani are smaller than those of Jambo, they are infinitely more impressive.

The Curious Case of the Missing Imagineering Field Guide

Imagineering Field Guide - DHSSurely I couldn’t have been the only one with bated breath waiting for the release of the fifth member of the Imagineering Field Guide, Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disneyland took fourth place honors). Scheduled to be released on April 28, 2009, the timing could not be more perfect, coinciding with the park’s 20th anniversary.

Checking online just a few days before, Amazon was accepting pre-orders (they now promise shipping in 12-14 days). Barnes and Noble had it ready to be sold on April 28. Only Borders’ website was showing a release date of April 2010 (?!).

When April 28 came, I headed to the travel section of my local Borders store. I found the field guides for Epcot and Animal Kingdom, but no Hollywood Studios. I checked their self-help kiosk and all it would say was released April 2009. Their website still insisted the book would be released in April 2010. What do they know?

Dejected, I moved on. I checked Barnes and Noble’s website which now said the book was not available for order (currently, the book can only be found by searching on its ISBN number). A call to Barnes & Noble confirmed that the book had not been released with no further notations. The customer service agent insisted it’d be best if I just let it go.

I then contacted Walt Disney World merchandising who had no knowledge of this particular book in the series.

I decided to go right to the source and ask Disney Press what the heck was going on. A representative has confirmed that the release date for the book has been pushed back to at least July 2010. She was also very careful to include wording that suggested this date is not set in stone and subject to change. No reasons for the apparent delay were given.

Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge's Kidani Village

Sanaa (pronounced sah-NAH) is Walt Disney World’s newest restaurant, located at Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Kidani Village. Its name is Swahili and translates to either beauty or work of art and both the restaurant and the new DVC resort itself not only live up to the name but exceed its definition.

Updates from WDW – Sanaa, Kidani, Characters in Flight and More

As always when I’m down here in Orlando, it’s been pretty hectic and time is not something I have nearly enough of. I’m also having some issues with uploading the photos which happens here sometimes, so please bear with me.

Just as soon as I can (as early as this evening, as late as tomorrow), I’ll have a full review and photo tour of Sanaa (I have almost 50 photos to share in all), a photo tour of Kidani Village, some exciting photos of Characters in Flight (yes, I went there) and much more.

As a reminder, I am able to occasionally post live reports and photos to the Stitch Kingdom twitter page, so make sure you follow us there as well. Yesterday’s live reports/photos included the 20th anniversary of DHS, Club Penguin’s Captain Rockhopper, Characters in Flight and more.

To the cast member who gave me her email address outside Sanaa in regards to the menus, I must apologize but somehow I managed to lose it. In case you see this, you can get the menus here.

Disney World Still Draws Crowds Despite Flu Alert

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) – Mickey Mouse, Pluto, the Fairy Godmother and other Walt Disney favorites were still dishing out kisses, handshakes and high-fives at the Magic Kingdom on Thursday, despite the flu virus alert gripping the United States.

At the world famous Florida theme park, which is run by Walt Disney Co and visited by millions each year, enthusiastic crowds filled the avenues and rides, apparently unworried by the warnings of a possible pandemic of a new strain of influenza A (H1N1) virus.
