Disney Channel has ordered up a second season of its newest out-of-the gate hit, “Good Luck Charlie” — just three months after its premiere. Development has also begun on a holiday-themed “Good Luck Charlie” Disney Channel Original Movie. The movie, being written by Geoff Rodkey (“R.V.,” “Daddy Day Care”), will star the talented series cast, Bridgit Mendler, Jason Dolley, Bradley Steven Perry, Mia Talerico, Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer. The announcement was made today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.
ABC and Canwest jointly announced today the renewal of this summer’s No. 1 new scripted series, “Rookie Blue.” The drama was renewed for a second season just three weeks following its highly rated premiere on ABC.
“Rookie Blue” stands as the most-watched television show in summer’s Thursday’s 9:00 p.m. hour. Sparked by this positive viewer response to the series, the second season is currently in development and will move into production in Toronto later this summer.
“We’re very pleased that the show has connected with viewers, especially considering the challenge of finding an audience in the summer, and are excited to pick it up for a second season,” said Quinn Taylor, senior vice president, Movies, Miniseries and Acquisitions, ABC Entertainment Group.

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade poses July 11, 2010 with a basketball-clad Mickey Mouse at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. In honor of Wade’s visit to the 220-acre sports facility, Walt Disney World presented him with a custom-made and hand-painted trio of basketballs in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s head. Break into a stranger’s home and steal her tiara and you’re just asking for a frying pan to the head. That’s the message we get from this concept art for the key scene in the teaser trailer (minus Pascal the chameleon) as posted by Walt Disney Animation Studios on the official Facebook page for Disney’s Tangled.
On a related note, the previous entry on the Facebook page suggests that Rapunzel is (at least) 18 years old in the film.
We have a couple of new clips from Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue to share with you, Pixie Hollow fans. In this first clip, provided to us by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Disney Channel star Bridgit Mendler introduces the clip to us from the set of her new music video from the film, How to Believe.
In the clip, the Fairies are over on the Mainland changing the season when Tinker Bell and Vidia come across what looks to be the house of Tinker Bell’s dreams. Until, that is, it turns into a nightmare as Tink is trapped by a clumsy human.
Two ailing Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles are on the road to recovery after being brought to Walt Disney World Resort last month from the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, Miss. to make room for animals directly impacted by the Gulf oil spill.
The sea turtles, suffering from pneumonia, were flown to Orlando June 25 and placed in the care of Disney animal experts. Kemp’s Ridley turtles are among the most endangered species of sea turtles in the world. The two are being monitored in a special backstage area at The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot and will require several months of rehabilitation before they are released back into the wild. Progress so far is favorable.
[singlepic id=257 w=160 h=120 float=left]On what reportedly turned out to be the hottest day in New York City in more than thirty years, the cast and crew of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Films (not to mention yours truly) braved the sun to celebrate the world premiere of the film earlier this week.
The event kicked off at the beginning of the carpet where New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, along with the film’s talent and the original Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Mickey Mouse, gathered to declare July 6 as Sorcerer’s Apprentice Day throughout the city. Then the stars began parading down the red and shadeless carpet to the New Amsterdam Theatre, where the screening was to be held. Unfortunately due to carpet position and the sun’s unwilligness to forgive, many of the invitees would eventually break away from the carpet and dash inside, so the opportunities for one poor Disney blogger were rare.
To that end, there were a couple of standouts. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer eventually made his way down the carpet, paying his regards to the press. Star and executive producer Nicolas Cage, however, was truly exceptional, not only responding to all, but answering questions at length, all the while waving to his adoring fans who were staked out across 42nd Street or simply driving by.
It was also very difficult not to be captivated by the lovely Teresa Palmer, who portrays love-interest Becky Barnes. Although one would never know it from her performances, Teresa is an Aussie and has a very heavy (but charming) accent to prove it. The children from the film — Jake Cherry, Peyton List and Robert Capron were also delightful.
After the screening of the movie, the night’s festivities moved on to Bryant Park where the stars of the film along with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turtletaub conducted a brief Q&A session at an event open to all. Although One Republic — whose hit song Secrets is featured in the film – was expected to perform during the mini-concert, cited health reasons kept lead singer Ryan Tedder at bay. Instead, Hollywood Records recording artist Alpha Rev doubled-up on their performance, treating the crowd to an impressive show consisting of about six or seven songs.
Epilogue: I really ought to be a concert photographer.
