Kids’ Votes Determine How Disney Will Divide $1 Million in Donations Among Environmental Causes

DC Friends for ChangeBURBANK, Calif., May 14, 2009 — The Walt Disney Company today announced Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green, a multiplatform environmental initiative that will help kids help the planet. Disney stars Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato are among the 29 young stars participating in outreach messages to debut on Disney Channel, Disney XD, Radio Disney and Disney.com. The Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green initiative invites young people to join together to help the environment across four key areas: climate, water, waste and habitats. Kids will learn practical ways to preserve the planet, track their collective impact and have the opportunity to vote on how $1 million in donations from Disney will be divided and invested in various environmental causes over the course of a year.

Ford and ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ Looking for Community Heroes

Ford Motor Company and partner ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” are still eagerly searching for community Heroes looking to make a difference. The Heroes F-150 campaign is awarding an all new 2009 Ford F-150 and $250,000 to help build or rebuild a portion of a community. Entries are still being accepted at www.TheHeroesF150.com. Participants can nominate their Hero until May 31.

Students, parents, community members, school, military police and firefighting staff are encouraged to nominate their community Hero for the Heroes F-150 contest by entering at www.TheHeroesF150.com. Entrants are asked to write a short essay (250 words or less) as to why the nominated Hero fits the definition of being “an individual who is dependable, family and/or community oriented, with a strong work ethic and commitment to his/her family, and/or co-workers and/or community.” The nomination should address nominated Hero would do with the $250,000 and a 2009 Ford F-150. The winner will be announced in June, the makeover completed later in the summer. In addition to the Heroes F-150 contest, entrants will also have the opportunity to enter to win an all new 2009 Ford F-150 in the Heroes F-150 sweepstakes.

“The Heroes F-150 program demonstrates Ford’s continued commitment to building communities around the country through its partnership with ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,’” said Eric Peterson, Ford Truck / SUV Communications Manager, Ford Motor Company. “Our Ford F-150 owners are Heroes in their own right. They are the go-to-guys that people can always rely on to make change happen, and we believe this program will not only help a community in need, but also inspire people to think about how they can lend a hand to their community during these difficult times.”The $250,000 will be contributed to, as recommended by the winning Hero, the construction of a new public or non-profit facility/building or the improvement or renovation of an existing public or non-profit building/facility to enhance the community and the quality of life of its residents.

Theme Park Merchandise Now Available Online at DisneyShopping.com

Disney Parks AuthenticThis year, the Walt Disney Company appears to be celebrating synergy more than anything else and they’ve taken it to a whole new level here.

With very limited cross-over in the past, the Walt Disney Company has done well to keep its merchandising lines completely separate from each other. Even when Disney owned the Disney Store the first time, the merchandise found at the Theme Parks (often marked with both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland logos along with a golden castle logo) was primarily available only at the theme parks or mail order (or the occasional shopping by proxy), but never at the Disney Store or online.

All that has now changed as DisneyShopping.com (aka DisneyStore.com) is now featuring select Theme Park merchandise including ears that can be personalized (mail order could not offer the embroidery), autograph books, toys, housewares and more.

You can view the online theme park merchandise now on sale online at DisneyParks.com/store.

P.S. Make sure you look at the selection on the menu on the left side. There’s a ton of theme park items being sold online.

Radio Disney to Premiere New Single ‘Hey’ by Mitchel Musso May 15

Mitchel Musso, star of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana,” will be a special guest on Radio Disney, the #1 radio network for kids and families, on FRIDAY, MAY 15 (6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT). Musso will speak to Radio Disney on-air personality Ernie D. about his music, tour plans and his role as Oliver Oken on the hit series “Hannah Montana.” Following the interview, Radio Disney will world premiere “Hey,” the second single off Musso’s self-titled Walt Disney Records debut album, due in stores June 2, 2009. New episodes of “Hannah Montana” air Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel.

Universal Orlando Resort Kicks off Brand-New ‘Sizzling’ Summer Concert Series

New Series Features Live Performances by Chart-Toppers Including Jordin Sparks and Natasha Bedingfield at Universal’s New Concert Venue, The Music Plaza

ORLANDO, Fla. – Universal Orlando is kicking off its first-ever Summer Concert Series with performances by some of music’s biggest talent – live at its new outdoor Music Plaza.  Beginning Saturday, June 13 and running Saturday nights through July 4, the new concert series will give guests the chance to top off their day in the park with a nighttime mega-concert.

The concert line-up features four of the biggest names in pop, hip-hop and R&B – all of whom are chart-topping, multi-platinum, Grammy Award nominees and winners.

First up is “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks, whose self-titled album has sold more than a million copies.  Sparks will be followed by hip-hop icon LL Cool J, with more than 15 million records sold and 20 singles on the Billboard charts.  Then comes British songstress Natasha Bedingfield, with album sales of more than 10 million – and Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famers, The O’Jays. But while you shouldn’t expect to see a zeppelin mooring to the Empire State Building any time soon (yes, that’s right – the once tallest building in the world was indeed intended to be a docking station for zeppelins – see here for more information), you can find one today piloting the skies of California.

The largest of only three zeppelins operating in the world today, the Eureka was recently brought to the United States by privately owned Airship Ventures, offering customers a once-in-a-lifetime experience as they fly over California using a means of transportation that hasn’t been seen in this country in decades.
